What Have You Read Lately? (Part XV)

Even though I have a bookshelf full of books I haven’t yet read, I’ve been a total slacker lately and haven’t touched them. (I partially blame Netflix.) But what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, part nine, part 10, part 11, part 12, part 13, or part 14, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part XIV)

Back by popular demand, it’s another installment of What Have You Read Lately. And for those of you wondering, I am reading Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner (which my mom pre-ordered on Amazon for us and then got wet thanks to Bethany and dropped in the pedicure tub thanks to me) and I am loving it!

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, part nine, part 10, part 11, part 12, or part 13, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part XIII)

As usual, another long overdue book post. Sorry about that!

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, part nine, part 10, part 11, or part 12, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part XII)

I’ve been seriously lagging on my reading lately although I’m sure this will change soon, as there will be less TV to watch due to the writers’ strike. Anyway, as I’ve been reminded by a few readers, it’s time for another one of these posts!

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, part nine, part 10, or part 11, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part XI)

I just started Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst. The book is basically a bunch of character studies, as told from the perspective of a few two-person reality show (think The Amazing Race) teams in the middle of the competition. A few chapters into it, and I’m already hooked.

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, part nine, or part ten let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part X)

I’m almost done with Say When by Elizabeth Berg and am really enjoying it. It’s written by a woman from a man’s perspective, and I think the author did a wonderful job of getting into the character’s mind.

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, part eight, or part nine, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part IX)

It’s that time again! While I’ve been busy buying multiple copies of the same book (come on, you’ve done it too), I have yet to read any of them. However, I have been trying to get into The Book Thief, but I think I need something slightly more uplifting at the moment.

So, what are you reading? And if you’ve read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, part seven, or part eight let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part VIII)

It’s that time again. Unfortunately, I haven’t read much lately, save for more chick lit–Looking For Mr. Goodfrog (and it’s a Red Dress Ink book, shhh, don’t tell anyone). However, on my nightstand is The Book Thief, which so many of you apparently loved. Thanks for the suggestion mom!

What are you reading? And, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, or part seven, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part VII)

I admit I haven’t been reading much lately. The last book I read was The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner and it was so disappointing. I usually love Weiner’s books, but the short story thing just didn’t do it for me. Anyone else read it? I started reading Knitting Under The Influence by Claire LaZebnik over the weekend and am enjoying it so far.

What are you reading? And, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, or part six let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part VI)

Once again, this post is long overdue. And once again, I’m on a chick lit kick. I recently finished Swapping Lives by Jane Green and am currently reading The Twins of Tribeca by Rachel Pine.

What are you reading? And, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, or part five, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part V)

I know, this post is long overdue. I’ve been on a chick lit kick (try saying that three times fast) as of late. I just finished Monkey Business by Sarah Mlynowski and Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern. I really enjoyed them both. Now I’m about to start The Bride Stripped Bare by Nikki Gemmell.

What are you reading? And, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, or part four, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part IV)

The other day on the phone, JAB mentioned she wanted to look on my blog to see who recommended Tortilla Curtain because she wanted to thank him/her. That reminded me it’s time for yet another edition of What Have You Read Lately. Have you read any good books lately? If so, what were they?

Also, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, or part three, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part III)

Because I got so many wonderful responses the last two times I asked for book suggestions, I thought I’d ask again. Have you read any good books lately? If so, what were they?

Also, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one or part two, let us know!

What Have You Read Lately? (Part II)

Back in July I asked for some good book recommendations and well, it’s been a while so let’s do it again. I just recently finished Good Grief by Lolly Winston and I absolutely LOVED it. What have you read lately?

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday after work I spoke to my first client–unfortunately it’s not a writing project (I’m going to create some forms and templates and help with a mail merge), but it’s money and I can do most of the work in my pajamas from home. The other part will be done at their home in the hills, where they offered to provide me with a snack should I decide to go straight from work. How sweet is that?!

Later that night I hit the gym–who knew it would be so crowded at 8:00 on a Friday? I did my usual on the treadmill then 15 minutes on the elliptical machine and wow–what a difference! I didn’t really care for the arm part, because I felt like it was making me lean forward, but damn, my legs are feeling good! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but…I’m enjoying the gym. It’s kinda fun, and everyone is friendly, and there’s tons of cute guys to check out. And the fact that it’s getting me closer to fitting back in my size 8s doesn’t hurt either.

Saturday I bought some gym clothes–two ($39!?) sports bras and a pair of yoga pants. When I got home, I tried a new raspberry muffin recipe from Real Simple magazine for Sunday’s bookclub brunch. The muffins look great but taste just eh, nothing special. That night I met up with Annabel Lee and saw Must Love Dogs. It was really cute, and sadly, I could relate to too many of the Internet dates depicted in the movie!

Sunday I woke up nice and early and went to Weight Watchers, where I learned I lost 1.2 pounds. Yay! Following WW, I headed back home and met up with David who was our guest of honor at bookclub. We discussed his book, behind everyman–which by the way, if you haven’t already read, you should–and had lots of laughs and a wonderful discussion. And on a somewhat related (in a you had to be there kinda way) note, I now have that stupid Keyes on Van Nuys car commerical looping around in my head. Thanks David.

After bookclub, I dropped David off then came home and did some laundry. Now I’m off to the gym. Ohh, the exciting life I lead!

What Have You Read Lately?

Last week, Elise mentioned she read a book my friend JAB recommened here on my blog and said she thought it’d be cool to have a superjux bookclub. I ran with that idea and thought once a month I’d post and ask my readers to make recommendations of books they recently enjoyed. So, who wants to begin?

Books, A Meme

My Urban Kvetch’s Esther tagged me with a meme so here ya go:

You’re stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
Hmm. My book club just read this book last year. Assuming this means I would become one of the “Book People,” I would choose Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein although I have no idea how I could possibly memorize and recite the entire thing.

By the way, what’s up with no one having read this book? Wasn’t it required reading in junior high or high school?

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
I’m sure I have, but I can’t remember who.

The last book you bought is:
Why Girls Are Weird by Pamela Ribon.

The last book you read:
Behind Everyman by David Israel.

What are you currently reading?
I am currently struggling through Why Girls Are Weird by Pamela Ribon, a (former) blogger. The book (it’s fiction) is about a writer who creates a blog kinda sorta but not really based on her life. The format is really confusing and it’s difficult to read, but I’m not ready to give up just yet.

Five books you would take to a deserted island:
Kissing in Manhattan by David Schickler, The Other Side of Mulholland by Stephen Randall, Why I’m Like This: True Stories by Cynthia Kaplan, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, and Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.

Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?
Erin because I know she’s an avid reader, Marissa because she’s always reading books that I must add to my list, and Ari because she and I enjoy a lot of the same authors.

Question of the Day

What are your three all-time favorite books? Least favorite?

My favorites are: Kissing in Manhattan by David Schickler, The Other Side of Mulholland by Stephen Randall, and the Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin.

My least favorite: Heartbreaker by Carly Phillips.

Apparently, They Just Weren’t Into Me

Since Monday, I have received three phone calls, including one from my dad, that all went something like this:

Hey Hil, have you heard about the book He’s Just Not That Into You : The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys? I heard about it and thought of you.

I’m not exactly certain what that says about my dating life, but I’m pretty sure it’s not good.
