Ask…

Once again, this Ask… post is long overdue .

You know the rules: You ask me a question. I answer it. Unless I don’t want to, then I won’t. Post it in the comments or if you’re shy, send me an email. I’ll answer the questions next week.

You can read previous questions and answers here.

And totally unrelated, but since I’m sure you’re all wondering, no, Nice Jewish Man did not call last night. Maybe he won’t call at all! Ah ha!

The Answers

You asked, and here are the answers:

Will asked: Can I get 40 nickels for a bag of potato chips?
Probably not.

Dawn asked: Hmmmmm. Seeing as you live in LA, do you ever see celebrities? If so, who? (Ironically, I’m so out of the TV and movie loop, if you name anyone, I probably won’t know who they are.)
I do see celebrities, but I am horrible at recognizing them. Most of the time, I’ll see someone and think, “That guy looks familiar, how the hell do I know him?” Then I’ll realize it’s because I watch him on TV every week. With that said, I tend to recognize the um, not-so-famous “celebs”–I see a lot of reality show people as well as Richard Simmons quite often.

Ask…

Here’s the thing. My life is pretty boring and uneventful at the moment which means I have nothing exciting to write about. And I see you guys checking back daily (and um, some of you hourly) for new content, and I have none. So, this situation presents the perfect opportunity for another, long overdue, edition of Ask…

You know the rules: You ask me a question. I answer it. Post it in the comments or if you’re shy, send me an email. I’ll answer the questions later in the week.

You can read previous questions and answers here.

The Answers

You asked. And here are my answers. (Click Read on… at the bottom of the post to read the rest of the answers.)

Karen asked (via email): How do you prevent the guys you meet from not finding your blog? Have they ever found it? What kind of synagogue/Jewish community do you belong to (if you do)? What are some other blogs I should check out? Do you feel weird about the fact that total strangers read your blog?
Well, I just hope they don’t find it. Lately, I’ve been writing fewer details about my dates for fear of someone finding it. Fortunately, my readership isn’t that large, and I believe the majority of my readers are female. And so far, I’ve been lucky.

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, the Answers

What is the worst movie you paid to see in the theater and did not walk out of? And whose idea was it to go see said movie? (mine: “Anchorman,” my friend Janna made me see it and I’ll never completely forgive her) (asked by Dan)
Young Einstein. I remember hating it so damn much. I can’t remember who I saw it with–JAB, was it you?

Do you prefer the Rolling Stones’ country or disco period? Why? (asked by Deadpan)
Honestly? None of the above. But I do love dancing to YMCA at Bar Mitzvahs and weddings.

Can we do an ASK HIL’S SISTER post? (asked by my sister)
Sure, why not. Let the submissions begin.

I’m not Jewish, unemployed, or a comic. Would you like to meet for drinks after work? (asked by Smoove D)
Sorry Smoove D, I’m sticking to Jew boys for now.

What made you decide to start blogging? (asked by annabel lee)
I started the blog basically as a way to force myself to write everyday. My job doesn’t allow for much creativity, so the blog provides an outlet for that.

you write a lot about dating; have any of your blog-readers ever asked you out? if not, then would you ever date someone who’s read your blog? (asked by nu.)
No, none of my readers have ever asked me out. Well, maybe Smoove D (see question 4). I’m not sure how I’d feel about dating someone who read my blog. I doubt I’d be able to be 100% honest when I was writing, mainly for fear of hurting someone’s feelings.

However, on a related topic, I did go out for dinner last year with someone I dated a few times prior to starting this blog and who is a regular reader of it.

And, I was introduced to Set-Up Guy by a reader of this blog whom I have yet to meet. I know, a little strange. Set-Up Guy knows of the blog, but doesn’t know the address.

The Return of Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me

Yes, I’m aware it’s been almost a year since we’ve last done this, but I’m pretty certain you remember the drill.

You ask a question. I provide the answer.

The Return of Ask Hil’s Mom

After a long and unexpected hiatus, Ask Hil’s Mom is back. (Ready mom?) Have a question for my mom? Post it in the comments or send it to me.

Introducing…Ask Hil’s Mom

Yep, a new feature that I know mom will enjoy. Thanks to Pauly’s comments to a previous post, I figured I may as well (try) to make Ask Hil’s Mom a regular thing. We’ll see how well it takes off. Let’s begin with Pauly’s comment regarding my mom:

I love that your mom comments here.

Can we get her to give advice out to your commentators?

My first question would be: When you met Daddy, what would you say was one of the biggest compromises you had to make? And then, what do you think is the most important compromise someone can make in their first year of marriage.

That’s all. Expecting good things from “mom”.

OK mom, we’re waiting. And if you have a question for my mom, post it in the comments or send it to me.

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me–Call For More Questions

For those of you (ahem, you know who you are) complaining about my lack of posts today, here’s one as I rush out the door.

It’s that time again. Feeling inquisitive? Or nosy? Send me up to five questions (or post them in the comments) about whatever you want–about me, about Los Angeles, whatever is on your mind, and I will answer whichever ones I want to answer (hey, it’s my blog). Sounds fun, right? Ask away!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, Part Four

This month’s questions come from Ellison:

1. If you could have any band play your 30th birthday, who would it be?
Easy–either Depeche Mode or Oingo Boingo!

2. What do you write?
I write content for my company’s website.

Got questions? Send or post ‘em!

Ahhhh

Now that I’m less stressed–with The Ex actually leaving me alone, my mom not being sick, and a three day weekend in San Diego quickly approaching, I can begin to harass my loyal readers once again. What’s up with you guys? Only two questions for July’s Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me? How disappointing! Since when did you all get so shy?

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me–Call for Questions

It’s that time again. Gimme your questions. For more information, go here.

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me–Part Four

This time, questions come from two different readers–Jay and Rannva.

From Jay:
1. What old concert t-shirt did you prize when you were a teenager and now can’t believe you ever threw away?
The Boingo t-shirt I bought during the San Diego show of Boingo’s last tour. (JAB: remember that?)

2. Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme?
Krispy Kreme. But only the plain glazed ones. I’m not a big donut person.

3. Favorite game show of all time?
When I was a kid I used to love that show where people smack this plunger-button-type-thing and scream No Whammies, No Whammies, Stop!. What was that show called? And why the hell did I like it?

From Rannva:
1. What three items would you take with you if you had 10 minutes to leave your home and never return?
Photo albums, memory boxes, and laptop.

2. If you had to participate in a reality show - which one would you pick?
Wow, this is hard. I love watching reality shows, but wouldn’t want to be on one. If I had to pick, I would choose Trading Spaces or While You Were Out. Cop out answer, I know. What’d you think I was going to say, The Bachelor?

3. What is your favorite restaurant in L.A.?
Casual and inexpensive–Toi on Sunset or Hot Wings Cafe. More pricey–Crustacean.

Have questions for me? Post ‘em!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me–June 2004

It’s that time again. Feeling inquisitive? Or nosy? Send me up to five questions (or post them in the comments) about whatever you want–about me, about Los Angeles, whatever is on your mind, and I will answer whichever ones I want to answer (hey, it’s my blog). Sounds fun, right? Ask away!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, Part Three (and a Half)

Due to the overwhelming response to my request for Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me questions, I am doing a special Memorial Day weekend version.

This time, questions come from Gareth, who has one of the most unique looking blogs I have ever seen.

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness? What do you fear?
Perfect happiness–Being loved (and having someone to love) as well as having family and friends who are happy and healthy.
Fear–Never figuring out “what I want to be when I grow up.”

2. What is your favourite sound?
Rain hitting the roof.

3. What is your one obsession in life?
Only one? E-mail, reality TV, Diet Coke, and Chapstick.

4. What movie have you seen the most times?
That would be a tie between Swingers and Grease.

p.s. Got questions for me? Post ‘em!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, Part Three

It’s that time again. Feeling inquisitive? Or nosy? Send me up to five questions (or post them in the comments) about whatever you want–about me, about Los Angeles, whatever is on your mind, and I will answer whichever ones I want to answer (hey, it’s my blog). Sounds fun, right? Ask away!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, Part Deux–The Answers

This month’s questions come from a very anxious Brooks.

1. Which photographer do you like better. Avedon or Penn?
I’m sorry to say and ashamed to admit, I know nothing about photography nor have I seen (that I know of) anything by Avedon or Penn.

2. How often do you balance your check book?
Balance my checkbook? People still do that? I just look at my account online everyday.

3. What extra curricular activities did you participate in while in high school?
I played tennis for a few years, wrote and edited for my school newspaper, and worked on my school TV show. Oh, I was also on the boat dance and graduation committees. How cool was I?!

4. Which is scarier to swim in, a lake, or the ocean?
The ocean. I am terrified of sharks!

5. Will you wash my car?
God no, I don’t even wash my own car. I’m fortunate enough to have a car wash service in my office building’s parking garage so I just drop my car off in the morning when it needs to be washed. OK, probably more info than you needed, but the answer’s still no.

p.s. Got questions for me? Post ‘em!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me, Part Deux

It’s that time again. Feeling inquisitive? Or nosy? Send me up to five questions (or post them in the comments) about whatever you want–about me, about Los Angeles, whatever is on your mind, and I will answer whichever ones I want to answer (hey, it’s my blog). Sounds fun, right? Ask away!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me Answers

This week’s Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me questions come from Pauly D.

1. What would you do with a tire-iron and a bag of salmon?
Since I don’t know what a tire iron is (and have never needed one, at least that I know of), I would probably give it away or sell it on ebay. Is it something worth selling on ebay? The bag of salmon, assuming it is fresh and edible, would go to my sister, as I don’t like salmon.

2. What TV character do you have the most in common with?
Well, considering most of my tv watching as of late has been reality tv shows, I would have to say no one I can think of.

3. Have you ever cheated on a boyfriend?
Nope, never cheated on a boyfriend–I’m a good girlfriend. (And currently single, so if you happen to know of a nice Jewish boy, I am available.)

4. Have you ever gotten food poisoning? If so, from what? Details.
Nope, never gotten food poisoning.

5. If you had to not answer one of the previous four questions, which would you have chosen to not answer?
I would most likely have not answered the part about the details of the food poisoning. Fortunately, that is not an issue.

Do you have five questions you want me to answer? Send them to me. Don’t be shy!

Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me

I’ve seen this on a bunch of blogs lately, so I figured why not do it too? So…I am now introducing the new Ask Me, Ask Me, Ask Me feature where you send me up to five questions about whatever you want–about me, about Los Angeles, whatever is on your mind, and I will answer all (or some) of them. Sounds fun, right? Ask away!
