Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday evening I came home from work exhausted, ate dinner, made part of the next Tuesdays With Dorie recipe (apple pie-cake, details later), packed a bag, then crashed for the night.

Saturday I slept until 11:00, drove out to the Valley (on the way stopping to fill my car up with $3.63/gallon 87 gasoline!) and enjoyed a manicure and pedicure then had my hair colored and two inches cut. I headed down to San Diego straight from the Valley and made it to my parents’ house in just about two and a half hours which isn’t bad, considering I was coming from Chatsworth.

Pure NastinessThat night, we all went out for dinner then to the drugstore where I bought my first ever Cadbury creme egg. The wrapper said it had a fondant center so I was all excited to try it. Ewww. I’m not exactly sure how I’ve managed to go 33 years without ever having tried one of those nasty things, so I’ll assume it’s because I’m Jewish and never had an Easter basket. Or maybe I just always knew the goodness that is Cadbury mini eggs. Moral of the story: Cadbury creme eggs = gross. Cadbury mini eggs = yum. Bonus: I can’t believe I just wrote an entire paragraph about Cadbury creme eggs.

Third Place!Sunday morning I again slept in then headed to the Del Mar Fairgrounds with my mom and sister to meet up with my dad and the dog for the Ugly Dog Contest. We had a bunch of friends there too, so Da Vinci had his own cheering section. Like last year, my dad and Da Vinci participated in the “dog who looks most like its owner” category. Unlike last year, Da Vinci didn’t get first (but still placed with third). And yes, there were some really ugly dogs there!

Following the contest, we had a celebratory (okay, not really) lunch at Pacifica, then I packed up my car and headed back to LA, once again, sans traffic. As always, a wonderful (yet super short) 24 hours with my family.

And now I’m going to watch really bad TV.

In other news, I broke down and paid for Jdate. Think of it as a momentary lapse in judgment, as well as wanting to read an email from a cute, sane sounding boy whom I “clicked” with. Sadly, the email was to basically fill me on an “embellishment” in his profile “written by very generous friends.” I kid you not. Stay tuned, there are some real gems in my inbox.

I’ve seen your baking blog and I know you could make better ones than theirs. That’s at least what I think.

I Looooove Cadbury Creme Eggs! But, I also Looooove Pinkberry, American Idol, and Listening to Musical Theatre On My iPod, so you’ll have to take The Whole Cadbury Creme Eggs Loving Thing with a grain of salt.

Hmm, I listen to musical theater on my iPod too. Does that mean I’m going to start liking Pinkberry and American Idol too?

My sister and I had to SPLIT the first Cadbury Creme Egg we ever ate - in England, circa 1986. They are a total Easter love affair for me. But I can practically feel my teeth developing cavities when I eat them, so I don’t do it too often.

In other news, put 3 or 4 Cadbury Mini Eggs in the microwave for a few seconds, just until you hear the shell crack. Mmmm….. the insides will be all melty….

I also have never ever had a Cadbury creme egg. I would like to keep it that way.

Those cream eggs are so sweet I feel like my teeth are hurting when I eat them!

And I’m glad you joined Jdate and I’m looking forward to more stories!

Some Jdate “embellishment(s)” as noted by generous friends:

1.) While not too tall, S can jump really high and is good at B-Ball.

2.) While not exactly a good cook, F does make some mean deserts. And life always starts with deserts, right?

3.) While not very religious, M, does know some of the basics so at least you’ll not be too embarrassed with the occasional trips to Shul.

4.) While not musical V can hum along nicely, and does have a very large collection of tunes on the hard/flash drive.

5.) He/she’s ‘never been kicked out of any bed that we know of’…

6.) They’re really well liked & respected at work.

7.) They’re great volunteers BTW!

8.) He/she’s ‘not really as cranky as they might sound’.

9.) Loving parents to their pets.

10.) Not nearly as desperate/troubled/broke/crazy as the Rest of the people here!

11.) Is much better looking than his/her bro/sis!

12.) Is well over the divorce/separation/fire/job loss/tragic accident/injury that held them back in recent years.

13.) Has been given a Go & ‘all clear’ from their psychiatrist/spiritual counselor/rebbe/parole board/momma/daddy/controlling Ex’s/kids and is now really ready to/for ’settle down’/hot lovin’/some real action for the first time since the Truman admin./marriage with suitable nut/a ‘LTR’/ ’see what happens’ with that special someone.

Yeah, the possibilities are endless here. Cheers, ‘VJ’

Hey, on the postive side maybe the j-date guys is just very self depracating… The fact that he emailed at all sounds quite sane.

I’m not a fan of the Cadbury Creme Egg — never was, never will be. I think I had one in my lifetime, a long long time ago.

But the mini eggs — a totally different story. Don’t get me started on my love for those. I treated myself to a small bag (even though they had the large bags right next to them in the aisle) and devoured them 1, 2, 3… I try to melt the candy shell in my mouth before enjoying the chocolate part, but sometimes I just have no strength. Must get to the chocolate NOW!

On the bright side, at least the jdate guy has friends who care enough about him to try to help him. Hopefully, there are other kind and caring men on the site who will appreciate you for who you are.

i’m tellin ya, 3.67 is cheap, i saw 3.95 up here last week!

as for the jdate guy i have to agree with jess. i guess it depends on the embellishment, so do tell! if his freinds write good things, that’s even better than him writing them himself. again, depends on what the lie was.

Off topic, but I just had to share … I finally found silpats!

Can’t wait to give ‘em a spin.
