Weekend Stuff

Another not terribly exciting weekend.

  • Went to Target to get a hairdryer, spent $50, then came home and realized I forgot to buy the hairdryer.
  • Went back to Target for the hairdryer.
  • Bought two huge tubs for my cookie cutters and sprinkles. They are both filled to the top.
  • Organized more cupboards.
  • Saw Definitely, Maybe with Karrin.
  • Bought new Clinique lipstick and lip gloss. Rumor has it they are going to start putting SPF in their lip products shortly. Yay!
  • Was supposed to have my Little over for a sleepover but was told “I’m really busy, I have a lot going on this weekend. Can we do it in a few weeks?” Yes, I was dissed by a 14-year-old.
  • Made more cake balls for my coworkers. This time, I made white cake with vanilla frosting with rainbow thingies in it.
  • Went for a walk.
  • Went to the Hollywood Farmer’s Market and Bed Bath and Beyond.
  • Spent entirely too much time on the phone with DirecTV because my new DVR sucks sucks sucks and they don’t care. Also, they charged me for my free receiver then signed me up for a $5.99/month “protection plan” without my authorization. I got the charges reversed and the plan canceled and they offered me a $5 credit for three months because I was “patient and understanding,” but I think the whole thing was a scam. Sadly, DirecTV is the lesser of the three evils in my area. Ugh.
  • Relaxed on the couch.
  • Cleaned up my apartment as Esther will be staying with me for a couple days this week and my parents will be here the following week. Did I mention my mom, sister, and I are all doing the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in a couple of weeks? We’re walking for my grandma (she died when I was a teenager but was a breast cancer survivor), and also a family friend who is a survivor.

In other news, there is yet another baked goods photo thief. Only this one is stealing not just my photos, but my posts too. What the hell people?

And in other random news, I have 10 unread messages waiting for me on Jdate and for a brief second I actually considering rejoining so I would have something to blog about. Yes, my life is that boring at the moment.

I have been a lurker on your blog and a member of Jdate for about the same time. This is not a coincidence. I joined Jdate, put up a profile that said “Please, I’m brand new, let me test the waters a bit before you IM.” I was online for exactly 2 minutes and 15 seconds after joining (I timed it) before I had someone IM me. Do people really not read profiles? I barely knew how to run a search or reply to an IM; I wasn’t ready to be harassed by jerks yet!

Needless to say that same night I was looking for sympathetic fellow singles to share in the experience. You will get a lot of hits blogging about jdating. However, it’s always your decision. Don’t spend money and time on something for other people. Only do it if you think you will either meet Mr. Right or get a Carrie Bradshaw-style book deal out of the experience :-)

Oh, p.s.

Found your blog as a link from jdatersanonymous (if you’re wondering).

I say join up again. Why not?

Glad to know I’m not the only person who goes to the market/Target/drugstore to get something specific and then leave without the one thing I went there to get!

DO NOT JOIN AGAIN!! Come on…you always say how much you hate it, you let your membership lapse and are free from all of it, then you get the urge to check it out so you rejoin…then the whole cycle happens again. Just my humble 2 cents, but I think you should absolutely keep dating and meeting people, just not through Jdate because it seems like it causes you nothing but misery.

And I also think DirecTV can be a scam (we have it, too!). When we moved recently and re-hooked up our DirecTV tivo we received a bill for a pay per view that we bought eons ago (Final Destination 3…geesh, that has to be from forever ago!). When A called to tell them we did not just purchase this movie they credited the charge and then gave us 3 free credits (I think $3.99 each)for our trouble. I’m thinking they overcharge people all of the time and then overcompensate when they are caught so no one pursues it…they probably profit greatly from all of the people that don’t take the time to call in.

And…your weekend sounds gloriously relaxing. I wish I had time to take a walk and go to the Farmer’s Market. I feel like all I’ve done is scream at the little ones this weekend. UGH!

JDate is such a strange road… You know that I met my husband on JDate (so there are good things that can come of it) but you also know that I met a lot of jerks. Hard decision, but you can always “unjoin” if you decide to rejoin.

I do that ALL THE TIME — go to the store for one thing, and leave with a dozen other things except the one I went for. Too much on the brain, I think. Or easily distracted by shiny things — well, that’s my problem.

Join!! Why not? Yea, you will meet a lot of losers, but there may be something worthwhile hiding in there. I did the 60 mile Komen walk… it was awesome! have fun!

Can you get AT&T U-verse…cable through your phone line and right now, no installation charges. Also, comes with incredibly high-speed internet. We LOVE it.

I guess you just have to decide if more good or bad comes from joining again. I mean, how many awesome experiences have you had…and how many irritating/confusing/ridiculous encounters have you have?

It seems like the latter wins, but I could be wrong, as I am just a reader.

Oh, and don’t join JUST so you’ll have something to blog about…your blogs are always interesting, even when it doesn’t seem like it to you.

DIRECTV is evil. I moved across country, spent $20 shipping my receiver out here as they promised to “freeze” my account and give me a free upgrade if I stuck with them, signed a lease for a place with free cable, called DIRECTV to cancel my account and was informed that they were going to charge me a $300 “early cancelation fee” because I got a FREE UPGRADE–which they conned me into getting before I moved! Horrible, horrible company.

The trick on Jdate is to pull your profile after you let your membership lapse. That way there are no temptations to rejoin when you see you have messages in your inbox. That’s how I got suckered in to rejoin a while back, and the messages were from Svetlana in the Ukraine, and Sexylady69 from Ghana.

I agree with Allie, your posts are interesting even when you don’t think that they are. I say, don’t join Jdate again.

I did Race for the Cure in Central Park this year and it was an amazing experience. Kudos to you, your mom and sister! Good Luck!

Or don’t join Jdate and join something else, like Eharmony where they find the matches for you and you don’t have to do as much. Ok, except do that really long personality profile, but whatever. I went out this weekend and some of the people I was with actually had really good luck with it. So maybe venture onto another site?
