Thursday Things

Still loving my Blackberry. The only negative is that the keys are so small, it’s hard to press the right one. Also, when I leave it on my desk at work and receive an email or text, it makes the clock radio on the other side of my cube buzz. Interference?

There is a new weekly podcast called Marzipan Taco. If you’re in need of a good laugh, check it out!

In Pinkberry news, it appears David Lebovitz likes the stuff, and this saddens me greatly.

Has anyone been to that super inexpensive clothing store, Steve & Barry’s, at the Bev Connection yet? If so, what did you think of it?

In job news, the latest rumor at my office is that I’ll be employed at least into the beginning of the new year. This gives me more time than I expected to find the perfect job.

In related news, I was offered and declined the food blogger position for a third time. Sadly, it’s just not financially do-able. Yes, I’m bummed, but it does remind me that those types of jobs are out there. Speaking of jobs, if you work at the Capital Group Companies (yes, I check my stats) would you mind sending me an email? Thanks!

In blog news, I think I solved the comment lag issue. Let me know if it’s posting comments faster than it was before.

In the past six days, I have made then brought candy corn, oatmeal sandwich cookies, and banana chocolate chip muffins into the office. When I’m stressed, I bake. My remaining coworkers are enjoying it and WW will enjoy the extra week or so I’ll be paying until I’m back at my goal weight. I’m counting points again beginning Saturday though.

I’ve been waking up with a really sore upper back/neck and noticed a huge dent in the middle of my bed and decided it’s time for a new mattress. I am so excited to try out comfy pillow top mattresses this weekend. Yes, I am aware I am a dork.

My airplane friend Hilary invited me to a LA Fashion Week fashion show. I’m looking forward to it but desperately need to figure out what to wear.

This week’s question: When you’re home alone, do you eat/do anything you would never do in front of other people?

I just bought my first brand new mattress. It really is a dream. I bought a queen, euro-top, thin double box-spring.

While it unfortunately doesn’t solve all of the world’s problems, it sure feels good to be comfortable in bed.

When I’m home alone I usually dress a little more scantily than I would if people were around, but I think that’s about it.
Very cool about the Fashion Week invitation!

I really enjoy reading your blog and look forward to Thursdays because I know that I can expect a posting. Best of luck with your job search - as my grandmother always advised “Never Settle!”. Enjoy mattress shopping - just got married two months ago {a JDate success story - so don’t give up on it!} and we bought pillow top with memory foam - super comfortable. I have heard that plush top is way too soft and mushy. As far as secret behavior, it reminds me of the Sex and City episode, where Charlotte admits to checking out her pores in a magnifying mirror and Carrie admits to eating stacks of Saltines while readng fashion magazines. What a funny question to get this morning, because last night after my husband went to sleep - I indulged in the last piece of chocolate mousse pie out of the freezer and then needed something salty to balance it out - my new obsession, SunChips the natural flavor in the blue bag are amazing!

Oh my goodness - have fun at fashion week! That sounds so fun! As to your other question; when home alone, I wear the most hideous get-ups, give myself very non-graceful pedicures, eat cereal or Cheez-Its for dinner and pretty much watch Law and Order all day/night long. I am what is known as a class act.

Good luck with the mattress. Make sure it’s the kind you don’t have to flip. ;)

So what do I do when no one’s looking? Sometimes I raid the kids’ snacks. I’ve been also known to buy junk food whenever I visit the auto parts store.

I hate to be cynical, but it seems like your office colleagues have a vested interest in keeping you stressed. That way they get more baked goods!

As usual, good luck with the job search.

I got one of those Temperpedic mattress dealies a couple of months ago… when I was trying it out in the store, I wondered if I’d have a hard time adjusting to it — but after I decided to try it out (I got the Ortho generic version with a 30-day return policy), I loved it and find I’m sleeping a lot better. I used to toss and turn and find the covers all tangled up on the floor in the morning… now I wake up, and the only movement the covers experience is when I peel them back to get out of bed.

I just tried Pinkberry for the first time last week (Alex has been refusing to try the one in our neighborhood, which is always packed, but my mother an I walked right into a totally uncrowded one in Little Korea) and though I promised myself I’d hate it, I absolutely loved it. That said, I don’t think I’d ever be a regular because they won’t publish their ingredients and that’s shady as hell. Plus, I could use Greek yogurt and make it even better and healthier at home. But it was tasty. Like, really really good. Darn it.

re: blackberry noises, my blackjack (a windows based smart phone, its similar) does that all the time too. i had to move my clock radio away from my bed actually because the noise of it “searching” for email was keeping me awake. i have no idea what actually makes the noise happen but its annoying. i get it in the car and on computer speakers as well sometimes.

I’ve been to the Steve and Barry’s in the Santa Monica and Fox Hills malls. I think the stuff runs a little small, but I haven’t invested that much time trying stuff on, nor have I bought anything besides flip flops. I think they have cute stuff, though, especially since most of their women’s section is the Sarah Jessica Parker line. I’m curious about her line of jeans…

Eh, I think Steve and Barry’s is kind of a waste of time. It’s cheap, but pretty unremarkable to me. On the other hand, at least it’s cheap :). You should check it out though, maybe I was there on an off day.

You’ll have a GREAT time at whatever Fashion Week show you’re going to (which one are you going to?). I’ve actually never been to an LA Fashion Week show, but the NYC ones are like insanely fun and dramatic and exciting. Even when the clothes are bad.

Re: Secret Single Behavior (isn’t that what they called it in SatC?) — like Charlotte York, I spend a LOT of time looking at my skin and hair. I also pee with the door open. :)

What do I do alone? I wear men’s boxer brief shorts nd wife beaters and socks. SO not hot, but beyond comfortable.

I popped into Steve & Barry’s and quickly spent $20 and got out with 2 things, $5 mary kate sunglasses and $14.95 seersucker pants, and I love the pants. Although they are bit big, they are so cute.

When I have my ipod and my blackberry next to one another the ipod volume goes up and down when a call, email or text comes in. Very weird.

I forgot to comment on the oatmeal sandwhich cookies, they were delish! I hate to say but i like it when you are stressed, I mean bake!!

Good luck with the job search. I haven’t even begun yet, been too busy taking a big ass deep breathe after 8 1/2 crazy dot-com years.

On the hunt starting next week tho!

First…I got an iPhone. I’m such a dork but B was the supplier. He fed my iPhone desire.

Second…Steve and Barry’s, good cheap cute clothes but cheap is the operative. Don’t expect the t-shirts to last long. Though, my Bitten by SJP hoodie is GREAT, soft and warm.

Third…Cheese and jam on crackers that’s been heated up in the microwave. Definitely lacks visual appeal but tastes divine.

What kind of Blackberry? Does it interfere with your radio in the car too? Mind does this and everything thinks I’m strange when they drive with me. It’s empowering to say the least but I thought I was alone!

Hi Hilary,
I started back up on the counting points this week. New location (Beverly and Altavista?) and new leader. I’m excited. Good luck!
