Thursday Things

So thanks to Knocked Up, I’ve been having earthquake nightmares for the past couple of nights. During the earthquake scene in the movie, I had to look away because I knew it would bother me–I still remember the Northridge earthquake like it was yesterday. I guess living at the epicenter during an earthquake can do that to you.

I got my blood work back earlier this week–cholesterol is super super low, iron is back in the normal range (no more iron pills, woohoo!), but now…now we must deal with my high SED rate. It’s been high for a few years, ever since that horrible migraine from hell, and I had blood work done five million times for it, but then I got Mono and had my tonsillectomy and sorta forgot about it. Hah, no more. In the past week, I’ve had blood work done twice. Enough, enough, enough.

It appears a Coffee Bean has opened (or is opening soon) at my Ralphs. Just what we need–three Coffee Beans within one mile.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the Kathy Griffin profile on Jdate? She (well, her 27-year-old self?) shows up in my search. For men. I thought originally that Jdate had been hacked. But no, it’s some kind of lame marketing campaign.

In TV news: I’ve been watching The Next Food Network Star and I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to get into it. The Top Chef special was kinda lame. And the Reunited: Real World Vegas show is really boring. On the other hand, I’ve also been watching Big Medicine on TLC which is quite interesting.

Tuesday marked the completion of my first week counting points; I lost 2.8 pounds. I know the first week is always the biggest loss, so I’m really only expecting to lose one pound a week from now on. I want to lose 10-15 more total. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) 15 pounds is somewhat easy to hide when you’re 5′9″. And not wearing a bathing suit.

And congrats to my best friend and WW buddy Julie, who lost this week too!

Yesterday at work sucked big time because it was five million degrees in my office. Then, I got home and my wireless Internet connection decided to not work. Then, my new DirecTV receiver decided to reboot. I hope the air is working when I get into the office this morning. Unfortunately, rumor has is that it won’t be. Ugh.

This week’s question: What is your favorite word and why? I know some of you told me when I asked for your least favorite word, but feel free to share again.

Favorite word: Marzipan.

I don’t particularly like the candy, but I love the word. I don’t know why, though.

PS. I’m loving the audience participation. As if I didn’t participate before ;-)

Congrats on the loss. My favorite word changes all the time but it’s currently schadenfreude, which I supposes makes me sort of an ass, but it’s too great of a word not to have at your disposal when you read reports that Paris is having a really hard time in jail and stuff.

Yay for the loss! I’m hoping I’ll have some of that tomorrow.

I’m enjoying the show Big Medicine. I really hope that the hispanic man makes it through his surgery okay and gets away from his enabling mom.

Favorite word: Loquacious. I love the way it sounds when someone says it and I definitely fulfill the meaning.

Kathy is a match for me too! We must be looking for the same person.

Serendipitous. Though I like word “possibilities” a lot too.

Good luck with that new Directv DVR. We had to get that one in our bedroom and it SUCKS compared to the Directv Tivo one.

I like every single word that everyone else has already liked. And many others. Like melliflous. And superfluous, but that’s already your word, so I can’t claim it as one of mine. It seems that the more syllables, the better. I can’t think of a short word that I particularly love.

Yay for the weight loss!

Justin, I already hate the new receiver. I miss my Tivo. :(

Favorite word? Aside from “ah crap”? Hmmm… probably new. Love all things new.

And? The Next Food Network Star? They had me when they had Duff on from Ace of Cakes. Love him. And I really like Tommy; and …Nina? The one who showed up in a pink mini dress and pink knee high boots. I think I love her.

I have several but I really, really love the word ’segue.’ Why? There’s no ‘w’!!! There should be but there isn’t ;)

Me, too Rebecca! I love when I am reading and see the word “segue” and I always stop and think….”that is such an oddly spelled word. Shouldn’t it be pronounce ’segooee’?” And then I think I’m all smart because I know how to really pronounce it. Yes, I’m a big old dork.

COngrats on the weight loss. Keep drinking a lot of water. You get quite a bit of exercise running to the bathroom! LOL

Favorite word(s):

Costive: No, it does NOT mean expensive. ;)

Counterintuitive: My euphemism for stoooopid.

Now why can’t Verizon FIOS service work with a VCR? Sheesh!

Rebecca and JAB, I was totally just having that conversation. It started with hyperbole and “segued” to minutae (and included segue). And during the conversation I found out I have a coworker (5th grade teacher) who pronounces it hy-per-bo-lay. And she is teaching the kids, and her teacher’s aid, that’s how it is said.

I like hyperbole, gesticulation, superfluous, and profusely.

I LOVE the word profusely as well.
Also: Cognitive, Tenacity, Sensational and Quantifying.

One of my favorites to write, say and type: Per Se.
I LOVE Per Se.

Alacrity. Celerity. Pert. Flounder. Aforementioned. Joy.
Wallow.

Euphanism.

I forgot that one. I love aforementioned as well.

It is so reinforcing to see that there are other word-lovers out there ;) I am so glad that I am not the only one!!

And Lady S — that is a shocking and sad tale about another fav word of mine. “No Child Left Behind” is in trouble now!!

Allie: I think you mean “euphemism.” “Euphanism” isn’t a real word.

I like words in general, but for some reason “tactile” came to mind first.

I’m liking “Big Medicine” as well, it’s filmed here in Houston and I have met both the docs featured.

I have some mixed feelings about bariatric surgery, but I know it works wonders for many people.
