Thursday Things

It’s been hot here. And when I say hot, I mean hot. Eighty-three degrees at 10 a.m. and 95 degrees around noon. And fires all day long. It’s officially spring in Los Angeles.

In related news, either my allergies are in full force (dry heat and smoke filled air can do that), or I’m fighting something off because I’ve felt horrible and been a major snot factory this whole week. Of course, this is a really bad time to feel like crap because I have to bake cookies tonight and make cupcakes and dip pretzels tomorrow. Also, Saturday is the shower (hence the yummies) and I’m driving down to San Diego that afternoon to spend Mother’s Day with my family. Another crazy busy weekend.

Have I mentioned next weekend the only thing on my calendar thus far includes a tennis outing with my Little? I hope to keep it empty like that.

My sister is moving into an apartment across the street and two blocks down. I now have an official guinea pig to taste my recipes.

Yesterday my coworkers and I went to the Coffee Bean down the street from our office. I ordered a light caramel ice blended, no whip. Unfortunately, it also had no caramel. What the hell? I don’t think that Coffee Bean location has ever gotten an order right.

This week’s question: If you were given $100 (don’t ask why, just accept it) how would you spend it?

I saw those fires on the news the other night, and was thinking about you. I feel all allergy-ish these days too, but fires have nothing to do with it on this coast.

I’m just hoping that the snot-fest will be less festive next week while I’ll be in Vermont on my honeymoon. Yeah, it’s almost 2 years belated, but whatever…

$100? I’d spend it on shoes. Definitely on shoes. In my closet, I’ve got 3 pairs that I haven’t yet worn, but I’d still buy more.

$75 set of Fresh Index sampler (4 scents) and lunch.

Barbara, what’s Fresh Index?!

Barbara - I just got that recently as a birthday gift and I LOVE it! Especially the sake scent which was originally the one I was least excited about. Go figure! It really is a great set though. Fresh is delicious!

If I had $100 that I wasn’t expecting I’d give it to my broke brother to buy our mom a nice Mother’s Day gift. Otherwise I’d probably spend it on dinner with my bestest buddy.

Um, yeah. What is Fresh Index? Sounds like something I want.

If I had a an extra $100 out of the blue, I would probably spend it all on my mother for mothers day. I’m in the process of moving into my dream apartment, and with that comes lots of fees, deposits, and moving costs…so I could really use that $100 to make my Moms day that much better.

I would probably use it to buy all the ingredients for her idea of the “perfect evening/afternoon.” I’d make her favorite meal and dessert, get her favorite wine, etc. I’m the only sibling that will be able to celebrate with her, so it needs to be that much more special.

If Mothers Day wasn’t coming up, I would most def tuck it away to help with my whopping $500 pet deposit I have to fork over. Geesh.

I suck at short answers, sorry.

Sorry you’ve been feeling under the weather. My wife has a cold, so maybe you caught hers. Get well soon!

My $100 is already spent. So is my $1,000. Add a couple more zeros and then we’ll talk. ;)

Ari - your wish list is where I found the 4-scent sampler! Hilary - Fresh Index is a line of scent which — as far as I know — is sold only at Sephora. I wear the fig apricot scent daily. It sounds heavy & fruity, doesn’t it? But it isn’t. It’s light and. . .fresh!

i would use it to have the bumper of my car repainted where some dick hit me. :)

Sister down the way? That sounds very cool.

$100? Lately I am crazy for art.com, artinaclick.com, or the art on furniture.com. So I would splurge on another framed print for house. I have lived there for 4 years now, and still have not decorated the walls!

I have my eye on one of the cheerier Van Gogh paintings called “Wheatfield with Cypresses” - and they are having a Mothers Day sale. I might just go online and get it!!

So cool that your sister is moving near you. Nice!

Just $100? Either shoes or go to a Broadway show.

JDate and a fat bag of weed!

ah, $100 would buy a really nice, needed massage! Sounds so good right now.

I’d have to say a shopping spree of some sort — but nothing practical, all me, indulgent stuff. I’m thinking Target would be the store and I’d take my time perusing, wandering with a good cup of coffee on a Sat morning before the crowds arrive…

Jo Malone… my favorite indulgance.

A facial. I am in dire need. Although $100 wouldn’t cover it.

I agree with an empty weekend calendar. My next free weekend is in June.

What would I do with a $100? I could be generous and give it to some charity or to a homeless person. But, nahhh! I would probably stick in the bank until June 14th and when I got to Vegas, place the bill on black and watch the roulette wheel spin.

I would use it for world peace and justice for all and if any change is left…. in the broken vending machine down the hall where your money comes back out after you get your snack.

I love this kind of thing. Imagining how to spend $100-$5000 is fun because it’s not life changing in any way–no need to be too strategic. I’d have a massage, or I’d buy an Ikea armchair, or put it towards new glasses. Mine are functional but incredibly scratched.

TARGET. Definitely, Target.

By the way, thanks for the clarification on the doorwall thing. Now I know.

Thanks for clarification on the job thing.

Sounds intriguing, I don’t think I know anyone else who does that.

As for the $100, the only thing I could think of is to take 2-3 of my closest pals and take them out to some nice (but not TOO nice) restaurant under some invented pretext.
