What Have You Read Lately? (Part VIII)

It’s that time again. Unfortunately, I haven’t read much lately, save for more chick lit–Looking For Mr. Goodfrog (and it’s a Red Dress Ink book, shhh, don’t tell anyone). However, on my nightstand is The Book Thief, which so many of you apparently loved. Thanks for the suggestion mom!

What are you reading? And, if you read a book that someone posted about in the comments in part one, part two, part three, part four, part five, part six, or part seven, let us know!

I would like to read The Book Thief too.

I am reading Where There’s A Will There’s A Way: Or, All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Shakespeare.

I also just read A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve.

I am trying to alternate fiction and nonfiction.

I am ashamed to admit that I have been enjoying Emily Giffin’s books. Light & fluffy-much different than my usual nonfiction/literary fiction stuff.

I recently read The Kite Runner - excellent.

Now I’m reading a collection of short stories by Richard Ford - Rock Springs.

Next I am reading Barney’s Version, Mordecai Richler.

I loved, loved, LOVED The Glass Castle. And yes, Hilary and Bethany, you MUST read The Book Thief — your Mom definitely knows best!

I’m about to start The Thirteenth Tale. Having just finished The Book Thief, I wonder if I’ll be disappointed in less than perfect writing.

Has anyone read The Thirteenth Tale? (Please don’t tell me it sucks…)

i’ve just finished Julie & Julie (it was pretty good; it’s about the woman who decided to tackle all of Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in a year and blog about it) and then the other day i tore through “Little Children” by Tom Perrotta, which the movie was based on. It was really well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lincoln by Gore Vidal but its slow going. I have a hard time getting thru fiction these days so I thought historical fiction might ease me back in. I might be wrong. (if) when I finish this, I plan on reading about alice by calvin trillin. its been getting excellent reviews and I figure its a good accompaniment to the year of magical thinking. ah yes, finish one book about an assassinated president, pick up another on a dead wife. cheery.

Just finished Single Mom Seeking, by JWeekly romance columnist and single mom Rachel Sarah, which was fun and which I’ll discuss in my column this week in the Jewish Week.

He’s Just Not That Into You (Revised and Expanded Edition, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo)

Be Honest, You’re Not That Into Him Either (Ian Kerner)

Men, Love & Sex: The Complete User’s Guide For Women (David Zinczenko)

Mortified (David Nadelberg)

The Corporate Dominatrix: Six Roles to Play to Get Your Way at Work (Lisa Robyn)

You’re reading that Laurie Graff book - do you like it? I read her first and I really disliked it, I ended up reading it just to finish it.

Did you ever read Leah Stewart’s book? That was really enjoyable. The Mercy of Thin Air was pretty terrific too.

I just finished reading The Eight today. If you liked the Da Vinci Code, it’s very much in that style, but with a female lead (or two).

OK, don’t laugh: I read The Devil Wears Prada. My wife saw the movie, so we know that the two diverge at the end. The book was entertaining, but kind of average.

Right now I am reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton. So far, so good. VJ should be flaming me any minute now . . . ;)

Oh, yeah, I’ve been reading a lot of “Maisy,” color books, “Buenas Noches, BebĂ©,” and stuff like that. Well, that was for the benefit of my two-year-old. Do you think I should start sharing the books with him yet? LOL

Hi, I am reading the Know it All, about a guy who is reading the encyclopedia Britanica. There have been several laugh out loud parts as well as a lot of info. I read a lot of “beach reads” so this is a good change. I also have the 4th installment of the traveling pants, I LOVE those books, and I just put the Glass Castle and Book Thief in my cart at amazon..thanks for the suggestions.
