Thursday Things

Last night’s monthly girls’ night with Jen, Marisa, and Ann-Marie marked a return to a normal social life! We went to one of my favorite Italian restaurants, Pomodoro, (no, not the chain of the same name) in Westwood. I had such a blast catching up with everyone, even if I am totally paying for it today with a sore throat. I am so looking forward to our next dinner and our girls’ spa weekend away! Speaking of which, does anyone have any Palm Springs/Palm Desert spa package or accommodation suggestions?

Yesterday was also my twenty-second day post-op. I think this is the longest I’ve gone without being sick in over a year. Pretty damn amazing. Now if my taste buds would come back and I could get rid of the metallic taste in my mouth I’ll be all set.

Tonight is dinner with Eve and Marnie, neither of whom I’ve seen in months, even though Eve lives walking distance from me. Crazy, I know.
- - -
Even though I’ve been eating pasta nearly once a day due to still not being allowed to eat regular food, I’m continuing to lose weight. Coworkers are really noticing and it makes me feel awesome. Maybe I should get one of these so I can keep it off.

Marissa got me hooked on this site (I know, late to the party), where I was surprised to learn that Hard Rock Cafe (at the Bev Cen) and the Hamburger Hamlet (in Hollywood) have closed. Guess what’s going in the Hamlet’s place…an H&M. Seriously, do we need two so close together?

Tuesday after work I stopped by the Hollywood post office (the one on Cherokee) to pick up the Food & Wine Magazine’s Quick From Scratch Chicken Cookbook I won from Paula of The Cookbook Junkie. Anyway, that post office is a joke and their procedures are straight out of a Saturday Night Live skit. There’s a special door to line up in front of for package and held mail pickup. Every now and then, the door opens and the employee takes a customer’s slip then quickly disappears back behind the door. Ten or so minutes later the employee reappears with the package and repeats the process with the next customer. Everyone in line thought it was a joke and we were all cracking up. Is that how every post office does it or is Hollywood special?

I bought an Entertainment book. Does that make me old?
- - -
In other news, someone got to my blog by searching for this. I don’t even want to know.

And finally, I got home late last night so I Tivod most of my Wednesday night shows. However, I did watch Top Chef, and while I’m not surprised by the elimination, could there have been any more product placement? Come on, that was ridiculous!

Glad you’re feeling better. That site is helpful (I’m even later to the party). At least the Hamlet in W. Hwd is still there. That place has a weird vibe, but I loved when Ari from Entourage tried to set a secret meeting there, knowing no agent in town would be caught dead in that place.

YES! Do they think we don’t notice the billions of references to the KENMORE KITCHEN, the GLADWARE, the KRAFT condiments, the RAV 4s, or WHOLE OATS MARKET? It’s kind of insulting.

And yet … I was on the edge of my seat again last night. I’m glad you’re feeling better!

Glad you are feeling better. I think the metallic taste is from dried blood (scabs)

Congrats on reaching your milestone of good health!
Hope you continue your journey into the land of wellness!

Spa/Hotel recommendation:

Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells has an AWESOME spa. Had the best massage there. Friends had great facials. The spa facility is really amazing with a private outdoor jacuzzi and shower area.

Also in Indian Wells is Miramonte and Renaissance Esmeralda — both across from the Hyatt.

I went here two years ago http://www.indianwells.org/index.php and it was fabulous. I also suggest going to Mama Gina’s in Palm desert for dinner. It is an old school italian restaurant.

I’m so glad that you are starting to feel so much better. It is crazy that we haven’t seen each other in months, but now there is no more fear of me getting you sick or vice versa. Can’t wait to see you tonight!

According to Sports Night, “It Can’t Rain at Indian Wells”, so it seems (to this New England girl) you should have fun there.

Glad you are feeling better.

I stayed at the parker a couple of years ago when they first opened - and it was one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to. we got a deal since they had just opened and it was off-season, but it can be pretty pricey now. and the spa is supposed to be amazing. its a beautiful hotel, recently redone, and designed by jonathan adler: Parker Palm Springs

so so worth it. I think I easily stole enough toiletries to cover the cost of our room.

@Lady S: But if you’ve seen the episode, you’ll know that the quote was by one of the characters because he didn’t want it to rain at Indian Wells… and then it did.

I am now addicted to TOP CHEF-and I am in love with Sam. I need to watch all the old eps online and catch up. And unlike UNWRAPPED, watching it doesn’t make me want to eat everything in my apartment.

Hil-maybe we can see each other for dinner next week? if i am feeling all better? what do you think?

The post offices in North Hollywood, Toluca Lake and Studio City all do the same thing.
