Thursday Things

For some reason, I thought that two weeks after surgery, I’d be good as new. I didn’t realize I’d still have a horrible sore throat, a nasty taste in my mouth, a numb tongue, practically no taste buds, and still be tired. The doctor said I should start feeling better in a couple of weeks and my tongue and taste buds back to normal in a couple of months.

Remember how DG and I were hanging out? Well, he won’t talk to me suddenly. At the end of December, I called him then emailed him to say hi, and no response. I saw him online and IMd him…nada. I have absolutely no clue what happened. But, with the new year will hopefully come new men.

Since I’m finally allowed to socialize again, my calendar for January is already filling up quickly! I have a girls’ night with Jen, Ann-Marie, and Marisa planned for Italian (what else, since I’m on this soft-food diet still), a coffee date, a Big Brothers Big Sisters meeting, tickets to the Mortified show with my friend Karrin, speeddating, and an outing with my Little.
- - -
I totally forgot to mention–the day before my surgery, my parents took me to Surfas to get my Hanukkah present–new pots and pans! I love them so much. (The pots and pans and my parents.)

Today is my dad’s hernia surgery. Please think good thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Okay, on to TV. Anyone else (I know Dori did) watch Top Chef last night? I can’t say I’m surprised by the elimination, and I hope either Ilan or Sam wins. What about Beauty and the Geek? I liked the premier and will watch the rest of the season. I also have In Case of Emergency Tivod and will probably end up recording Gay, Straight, or Taken as well. What are you watching?

Your Dad’s going to do great! My uncle had hernia surgery years ago and he flew through it.

Hey Hilary. I bet you will find yourself feeling better very soon. It takes at least two weeks to start feeling yourself again after an anesthetic.

Anyway, I’ll be sure to send good thoughts for your Dad today.

I’m not watching any of the shows you mentioned. Not even In Case of Emergency…especially after watching the pilot.

Blah!

I am excited for the return of BSG and Brothers & Sisters though.

I am totally addicted to Surfas. I’ve been there three times in the last month. I think it’s maybe not such a good idea that it’s so close to my apartment…

I enjoyed Dirt on FX more than I thought I would. I’ll be giving it another shot. I have Beauty & the Geek TiVo’d, but haven’t watched it yet.

The regular eating and tasting takes time, but it comes back and probably will be better than before. I have not seen any of the shows you\’ve mentioned except for Top Chef which I saw by accident last night when Mrs. Be The Boy had it on. My Tivo seems to only record old movies and The Venture Brothers.

I wasn’t surprised by the elimination on Top Chef either. I def think it’s going to be Sam (and besides who is cuter than Sam?).

I saw Beauty and the Geek and laughed for 2 hours straight. I’m praying those girls were acting…

Glad you’re back to blogging! I had surgery a few years ago, and remember feeling similarly startled by how long it takes to fully recover (not SO long, just longer than I expected).

Of course I watched Top Chef last night. I thought the outcome was fair. But everyone is SO mean to poor Marcel. He is not half as annoying as Stephen (the snooty sommelier) was last season, and everyone totally hates on him. It was cruel what they were saying about his supposed virginity.

Anyway. Apparently there is a “Top Designer” sequel that will tide me over after this season ends. Otherwise, what would I do on Wednesday nights???

I’m rooting for sam - because he’s hot AND he can cook. although part of me also wants cliff to win. he just always has his shit together. sam is sort of the second coming harold from season 1 - the good-looking nice guy.

gay, straight or taken just sounds offensive to me. I tivo’d dirt but other than rick fox taking it up the butt from a strap-on (this is BASIC cable?) - I have to say, it didn’t really grab me. I’m just sad they cancelled the OC when it was finally good again. seriously. it makes me laugh out loud.

glad you’re (slowly) improving. feel better.

so did you end up watching In Case of Emergency? What did you think? There was potential, right?

Thanks everyone! My dad’s surgery went perfectly, and he is recovering at home nicely. My mom is playing nurse yet again!

Ari, it was kind of depressing! I was disappointed…I love Jon Favrau and had high hopes. I’ll probably give it another episode though.

I am kind of Rooting for Sam, too. He has been The Front Runner from the start, I think. Yes, he is Cute. But That Long Hair Thing is So 1994.

Although I am Dissappointed about The Eliminated Contestant, I would still love to Try (His/)Her Restaraunt, since it is Right Here In Hollywood! Wanna come? (when you can Enjoy Food again, natch…)

Glad you’re on the road to recovery. The whole tonsil thing sounds like quite an ordeal. I’m rooting for Sam or Cliff on Top Chef, but I’m leaning towards Cliff. Marcel is annoying, (what is with that hair?), but I thought Ilan’s comment about his dessert in front of the dinner guests was a cheap shot.

Total cheap shot, and definitely unprofessional. I guess I’m in the minority; I really want Elia to win.

Glad you are feeling better, and best wishes to your dad. I’ve done the hernia thing, and it’s not fun. Don’t let him lift anything heavy for six weeks, and keep a fair amount of dried fruit in the diet for the first week.

Sam for sure!
Ilan was my second until this week.

Knights of Prosperity was hilarious and I’m looking forward to the new season of The L Word!
