Ugh

Holy shit, I’m in pain. My most amazing mom has been waking me up every four hours to give me ice packs and my meds and I’m still hurting. Once the stuff from the hospital wore off, it was a total different story. the left side of my tongue is totally numb from the clamp now too. Fortunately, my mom is also crushing up all my medicines (I knew that meat pounder would come in handy one day) for me and got me a bell to ring if I need her. And my sister stayed the night last night as well. How awesome is my family? The sucky part is that tomorrow is my dad’s birthday and I have to stay here until Friday (the doctor wants me to come for a post-op then) so he’ll be all alone on his birthday. Crappy, huh?

Unfortunately, no ice cream for me as it creates mucus, and that is something we are trying to avoid because it makes me clear my throat and/or sneeze. Instead, I’ve had pedialyte popsicles (they have electrolytes in them), ice chips, a Slurpee, and Icees from the freezer section of the grocery store. I’m trying to get down Vitamin Water, but the thicker frozen stuff seems to be easier to take.

Today is gonna suck.

Your family is too great. I’m sure your dad understands and that you will make it up to him once you can bake and eat cupcakes again! Are you able to have those lemon/orange/cherry italian ice things that come in those oh, so, cool triangular packages? You could do a sorbet too, since by definition they are not made with any dairy. Sherbert, however, is. Hope you feel better very soon!

Gelato! Hope you’re feeling better soon. This is why they’re easier to yank when you’re a kid. You forget about it all in a few weeks, and they’re a slightly smaller target. As an adult, not so much. Cheers & Good Luck, ‘VJ’

Oh Hilary,
I’m sorry you are in pain! Just think of no more strep, no more white spots, and certainly you will be up and partying for New Years!
Ok popsicles instead of icecream.
Feel better!

I’m so glad to hear that your surgery went well! Are margaritas allowed? That might help :) Get well soon!

Your family rocks! As do slurpees (although perhaps not when they’re all you can have…)
Keep getting better, and let me know if there’s anything I can do for you or Mom.

Hang in there, cookie! It’s all going to get better — this is the worst of it, no doubt.

Hello all:
Hilary is doing quite well considering the difficulty of her particular case. Today, the 1st day post-surgery, is the worst day. Tomorrow will start the “gee, I really am starting to actually feel a small improvement” days. Can’t wait until she realizes this. I am trying to keep the swelling at a minimum and prevent any untoward bleeding, which is always a danger with adult tonsillectomies. However, under my watch, I will make sure she remains quiet and still, so there will be NO complications. Can’t wait to get her to my house!!!! Besides, DaVinci will be so happy to have Hilary and Bethany (she is coming home too) in the house. As will their DAD of course!!!!!!!!!
The comments are great…..keep them coming and I will keep our girl healthy and as comfortable as is in my power. Codeine helps greatly!!!!

Hilary appreciates all the support…..some of you guys are an absolute riot!!!!!!!!

Love,

Hil’s MOM aka Nurse Cratchit…..or are you guys too young to remember “one flew over the cuckoo’s nest?”

Hope you feel better soon and feel free to date again and find a great guy to make out with, ’cause playing tonsilless tonsil hockey is still fun.

Hmmm. Everything I know about tonsils I learned from Cindy Brady, and SHE got to eat ice cream…. I guess medical science has improved in the last 35 years. Oh well, I hope you feel better!

Hillary, I am glad you have pulled through the operation and are getting better. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I still have my tonsils, and I’m older than you, so I hope I don’t have to go through what you have to. Can you have the Tophooey (er, Tofutti) ice cream substitute?

Hilary’s Mom, you are a wonderful Mom (just like mine ;)). Yes, I did see “Cuckoo’s Nest, but many years later and on video.

Happy birthday to Hil’s Dad! He shares a birthday with Benjamin Disraeli (1804 - 1881) and several others. I hope his birthday goes well!

If you think the meat pounder is bad, I used to think that my sledge hammer was useful as a kitchen tool! Hmmm, must be a guy thing . . . LOL

My third graders would be so jealous to know you are getting to eat Italian Ice. We had them last year for my birthday (May) and they still stop me in the hall to remind me of them.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Yikes, I hope that you feel better soon!

Please email me if you need *anything* (more frozen peas, company, whatever) as I go right past your house twice a day.

*hugs*

What about Tofutti Cuties? They are dairy-free but taste just like ice cream and are nice and cold! Yummy!

Yay for being post-op!! Boo for being in pain. Sounds like your Mom is taking extra-good care of you. Hang in there, feel better SOON SOON SOON, and I can’t wait to see you when you are up to having visitors!

Far be it for me to correct Hil’s mom, but oh, man, I gotta.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest= Nurse Ratched

A Christmas Carol=Bob Cratchit

Still, Hil is superlucky to have Mom, Bethany and the rest of the mishpokha taking care of her. And she will feel better soon.

Or as Tiny Tim would have phrased it, “God bless us, every one.”

ummmm…hilary? have you forgotten your dad works with an office crew that has gone to great lengths to make sure his b’day will be an awesome day?? there will be presents, cake, sushi lunch (thanks to the newly opened restaurant next door), did i mention presents? tons of funny cards and his office will be covered in crepe paper in his favorite colors of blue and gold!!!
we will keep him busy (orders from your mom) with patients and visitors and don’t forget Davinci, our sweet puppy who entertains and protects us every day from the underlings of society who dare to enter our store! (yes, this means you, FedX and UPS ppl!)…..before you know it — you’ll all be home to help him celebrate the “day after…”
do not worry one bit!! we’ve got tomorrow covered!!

rest, relax, let the meds do their thing and know you are thought about and loved like crazy!!!

So glad those nasty tonsils are finally gone and will not give you trouble anymore!

I remember the pain my husband was in after his tonsillectomy (last spring), so I really feel for you. Hang in there. Sending you hugs and best wishes for a SPEEDY recovery.
