Tonsil-less Blogging

Just a quick post while I still have the good drugs in my system. Everything went well. The surgery lasted two and a half hours instead of 30 minutes because my left tonsil was really bad. I had no major bleeding. Century City Hospital is really nice, as is the staff. My tongue is still numb from the metal thing they used to hold it down (yes, gross). The pre-op nurse told me when she put my IV in that it was “messy.” The post-op nurse accidentally OD’d me on pain meds, so I’ve been sleeping a really long time. My mom asked the doctor if it was okay for me to have risotto specifically, because it was not on the guideline-type list of foods I can eat; yes, the doctor’s reaction was what you would imagine it would be. My sister and mom are having fun playing charades with me, and IMing with my sister is proving to be quite beneficial being as I can’t talk for a few days. As the pain meds wear off, the pain is becoming very evident. Finally, my mom is finding it quite fun to take pictures of me with bags of frozen of peas on either side of my neck.

Thanks again for all of your nice thoughts, they are very much appreciated!

Hooray! Glad it all went well. When we were kids, anyone who had their tonsils out got to eat loads and loads of ice cream. I suggest you run with that one. Feel better soon.

Yay for Tonsilfree Hilary! Did your mother perhaps attend my mother’s Academy of Asking Bizarre Questions of Doctors? She earned her Ph.D. in this area by once asking a doctor who was trying to find her pulse if she might be clinically dead. Yes, I’m absolutely serious.

Enjoy every bite of your risotto.

Thank Goodness! It’s about time. Glad you’re up to blogging. My only wish for you is strength as the pain meds wear off. And I sincerely hope your ears don’t drive you nuts. If so, take lotsa pain meds :) Hope your better quickly!

Good to hear you’re doing well Hilary. Send folks out for more exotic flavored ice creams! It’s for the good of the cause, right? Cheers & Good Luck! ‘VJ’

I never had mine out, but I knew a grown-up who had them out (as a child) and they grew back.

Here’s hoping yours stay gone.

Glad to hear confirmation that sense of humor is not located in the tonsils, because you’ve still got yours. Girl…February’s a-coming.
