Thursday Things

My baking blog has been nominated for a 2006 Food Blog Award, how cool is that? Thank you Rachel for the nomination!

Especially for Stacey, a tonsil update: Went to the doctor on Monday for my pre-op. Throat and tonsils are red and white (how festive, I know) so I am back on the super super duper antibiotics. Going back to the doctor on Monday so he can take another look and give the all clear for Tuesday’s surgery. If they’re not looking much better, the surgery may be postponed.

In related news, my coworker had to go and one up me by having an emergency appendectomy on Tuesday. (He’s doing well.) I think I just lost major sympathy points from the rest of my team.

Is anyone else watching twentyfourseven on MTV? No? Umm, then uh, neither am I. But if you happened to catch it, did you also think it was a really cheesy version of Entourage?
- - -
Divorced Dad appears to have been mugged hit by The Bus. I emailed him on Tuesday (to see if we’re still on for this weekend) and never heard back. And of course, my Yahoo email had to pick Wednesday morning to lock me out. I left him a voicemail yesterday afternoon and so far, not a word. At least I’ll have a clean dating slate for the new year.

While catching up with David the other night, he told me about this new search engine called GoodSearch. Everytime you search for a term on the site, money is donated to the non-profit organization of your choice. How cool is that?
- - -
Last night was girls’ night with Ann-Marie, Jen, and Marisa. We checked out Damon and Pythias in Westwood Village then hit Diddy Riese for desssert. Yum and fun!

And finally, I have finished all of my holiday shopping (I love Amazon). Good thing too, as Hanukkah begins tomorrow night. Now if I could only remember to buy candles for the menorah I’ll be all set.

What I love about Hanukkah is that since it lasts for 8 days, you have more time to shop/wait for packages arrive. The present isn’t late, I was just waiting to give it to you!

No problem about the nomination, you deserve it!

Okay, DD is a creep.

Thanks for the shoutout and about GoodSearch. If I may add a testamonial: At first it was hard to give up my Google habit… I was addicted to the look of the page, doing hundreds of searches each day. I needed a fix the way, well, you know.

But once I made the switch to GoodSearch, I found I felt better about my search habit. I felt like I was making a difference in the world, not just in my life.

It takes a little bit of effort to get used to it, but it’s powered by YAHOO!, so your results are pretty substantial.

Now I have to do Math to Post A Comment?????

I am going to make My Readers take A Vocabulary Test!

Randi, I believe that every commenter should be able to do basic math.

Or maybe I’m just trying to prevent spam comments. :)

Yay! Now I don’t just get to read a fabulous blog when I come here, but I also get to brush up on my basic math skills!
Thank you. :)
Also, I happened to have caught some twentyfourseven…and I concur.

Oh, and congratulations on the nomination for Best Baking Blog…that’s exciting!
Good for you!

Before calling DD a creep and writing him off at least give him until the end of the day to call or write back. Since there are kids in the picture he may just be busy with them. I once dated a girl who didn’t return my calls and it turns out she wasn’t avoiding me, she was just in jail. There are always reasonable explanations.

Yeah, I am going to agree with Will and say that you should give Divorced Dad a few more days before writing him off.

Yay for your baking blog!

I ::heart:: that there’s math on your blog… :)

g/l with the tonsils. Happy (early) Chanukah. And boys suck. Not that I’m bitter.

Eve, a few more days? We were supposed to go out tomorrow night.

I think it sucks that you have to get better in order to have the thing that is sick taken care of.

Good luck.

These Math Questions are getting Harder and Harder.

Hilary! There is Nothing Worse than A Boy Who Makes Plans With You and then Never Follows Through On Said Plans. He isn’t going to call. And if He Did, would you really want to be Treated That Way? (Never his Priority?) This reminds me of “Mugged” Guy. Stop letting yourself think It Is Okay To Put Up With Poor Behavior! You deserve Better and you will Get It.

TDR

Randi, I merely said that he got hit by The Bus. I wasn’t excusing his behavior whatsoever, although some of my commenters are.

Do you know what I Just Realized??

The Math Answer is Always “14″! I am like some sort of Math Genius!

I am relieved to know that you will not be Waiting At The Bus Stop, Hilary.

I’m not advocating that anyone let poor behavior pass but I would at least give until days end before assuming The Bus hit him, just in case he’s trapped under something or sick.

Hey girl - maybe DD sensed that you weren’t all that into him anyway? It does suck that he didn’t at least man up and say something. Not just disappear onto the bus.

On another note, you can select the charity I volunteer for on http://www.goodsearch.com! It’s called the Art of Elysium. Such a good cause!

In any case, I’m thinking of you and will cross my fingers that your Holiday Colored Tonsils (TDR style) don’t screw up your surgery.

Math? Cool! Do you come up with the questions or is it a random generator here? Here’s a good one you can use: What is -(exp(-(pi)i))?

Oh, wait, you actually do want some comments . . .

Congrats on the nomination. What is the deadline for voting?

And yes, do get better. I thought all this inflammation of the tonsils is even more reason to pull them out, not delay that operation! Then again, I am not a doctor.

About Divorced Dad: He is either overextended, scatterbrained, bad to women, or (the moral equivalent of) hit by a bus. The first three are definite red flags. Somehow I remember from back in my single days that if I made plans with a woman, I followed through unless I was sick (and then I did call and cancel/apologize).

All right, I am making my raspberry chip brownies this weekend. Have a good one!

Maybe he was weirded out by your carbon-copying him on that e-mail.

The math questions seem to be gone. This is nice, as I don’t have my calculator handy.

Sorry the bus has taken another one, Hilary. Ditto for the tonsils. I think you should just schedule them for the next B-day and be done with it by then. But yeah, always remember to check the jails & the hospitals before writing off you dates. Something always good to remind folks. Cheers & Good Luck! ‘VJ’

I would tend to agree with Pox on this one. That accidental cc to him and Mugged Guy could’ve been a gaffe. Then again, I think he talked about the end of his marriage too early on. Then again, what the hell do I know? I can’t understand why any of the guys you date are such flakes. They all seem to make subsequent plans with you — which uninterested guys definitely don’t do (that much I know) — and then “poof.” Maybe The Bus isn’t just an urban myth…

I texted (as this appears to be the preferred method of communication) DD to make sure he was in fact, alive and not in jail. (Have no fear Will, he is both.) He texted back immediately that he was sick. I told him I hope he feels better, and asked if he got my email and voicemail from earlier in the week. He said he did.

Maybe it’s just me, but if someone was emailing and calling me to find out if we were still on for the weekend, especially the following night, I’d email, call, or text them back and not wait for them to text me.

The one thing I’ve learned from all this dating is that if a guy is interested, he calls.

Texting will be the death of us, I just know. If that is the preferred method of communication in the early dating stages, it’s just a matter of time before that relationship crashes and burns. Nothing says “I can’t really be bothered to talk to you” like texting, and I say this from being both the texter and the textee. But it didn’t sound like you were that interested in this guy, so him bowing out probably saved you from a boring afternoon in Suburban Hell.

“The one thing I’ve learned from all this dating is that if a guy is interested, he calls.”

I think you are right - at least that’s been my experience.

Anyway, I really hope your tonsils feel better and I wish you luck.

Happy Hanukkah!
