I Want A New Drug…

Just a note that in case you don’t see any new posts for a few days, not to worry. The doctor called today and said that although my culture came back negative for Strep, it came back positive for something called a pseudomonas infection. (Any doctors out there care to shed some light on it?) Anyway, the antibiotic he put me on, Levaquin, makes me a little jittery so I don’t think I’m going to be sitting in front of the computer any more than I need to. I’m going back to see him tomorrow and will ask about a different drug and some other stuff.

Have I mentioned how anxious I am to get my tonsils out?

Good lord! I hope that whatever drug you’re on (or soon will be on) knocks that nasty infection out once and for all. Yuck!!! The tonsillectomy will be a piece of cake– enjoy the chance to eat unlimited gallons of ice cream.

It’s a fairly common infection Hilary, and a common drug. I hope you’re doing better soon. Cheers & Good Luck! ‘VJ’

You can look up information on wikipedia.org or from the National Library of Medicine (www.nlm.nih.gov). In any case, I hope whatever drug they give you knocks this thing out soon!

This bacteria lurks in water and other mediums.
This is from http://www.webmd.com

i nfection-producing germs that can lurk in water include Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which causes swimmer’s ear (an infection of the outer ear canal, known medically as otitis externa) and skin rash (dermatitis). “You can catch respiratory illnesses and colds but by far, skin rashes, swimmer’s ear, and gastrointestinal bugs are the most common,” he says.
It can cause a variety of illnesses, including eye infections, meningitis, diarrhea, pneumonia, and skin infections. The organism has been commonly found to grow on contaminated equipment, in sinks, and even in hand lotion

Unfortunately I didn’t get the swimmer’s ear or rash variety, I picked it up because my immune system is basically shot.

I feel for you. I had a breast reduction and ended up with a pseudomonus infection in my skin that caused the newly healed scars to reopen. It was gross and painful.

But the upside was the used silver (real silver) to treat the wounds. Now I can say my every breast had a silver lining. (bad pun, I know)

Hello from a Greek in Utah, btw!

[...] Earlier in the week I went to the doctor because my throat was really sore. He did a Strep culture, said it’s most likely negative (ya know, because I am sans tonsils now), and said to call him back on Friday for the results before I leave for the desert. So, after a game of phone tag with a nurse, I am told I have to go back on Levaquin for a bacterial infection (not Strep). You may remember Levaquin is the drug I had to take for the stupid pseudomonas infection I had back in October. Anyway, long story short, I finally spoke to the doctor who said the initial culture results came back positive for proteus infection (yes, another totally random one), but we’ll know more on Monday when the full culture is done and to hold off on the Levaquin until then. I asked if I was contagious and told him about my plans for the weekend, and he said no kissing on the lips or sharing food. Okay, all is good. [...]
