Enough about me, let’s talk about you for a minute (Part II)

Remember back in June when I asked you guys to tell me about yourselves? Well, only about 10% of you complied. So for the rest of you, spill it. Here. Now.

Tell me something. Where are you from? Are you married? Single? What do you do–for fun or for work? How did you make your way to my blog? Anything.

I’ll start this ball rolling:

Originally from Montreal (Canada), now living in Connecticut.
Married (he’s the reason that I moved to Connecticut).
I have no idea anymore how I found your blog but it was definitely a link from someone else’s blog, as was theirs, etc…
It’s too early in the morning to think of anything witty to say. I’ll do better next time.

I was born a poor black child. Or a newess Jewess on the Upper East Side, I forget. I’m a married mother of nine, baruch hashem. I found you through a search, probably for “Jewish single women bloggers.” And I like television.

I’m a 29 year old father of a 2 year old son living in a suburb of Baltimore, MD. Although, I’m a gentile, I’ve been married to a wonderful jewish woman for almost 4 years. For both work and fun, I enjoy all things geeky. Not sure how I found your site (probably a link from somewhere) but I always enjoy your writings, even if they are about your tonsils.

I am a 24 year old engaged woman living in Jeffersonville, Indiana. If you’re looking on a map (although you’re probably not) that is directly across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky which I usually claim as my hometown. I don’t really claim jew or gentile status, but I suppose for record keeping I would be a gentile. Your blog became a part of my daily “I-am-bored-at-work-and-need-entertainment” routine a couple months ago, I’m sure linked from another member of the morning routine.

My decently-paying job is as a secretary for a travel agency corporate office, my actual enjoyable job is as an assistant girls basketball coach for a local high school. And as you can see, I tend to be a bit verbose and run on at the mouth.

Thoroughly enjoy the blog - it’s how I live vicariously through those in larger more entertaining cities.

Hi, I do not remember how I found your blog but I have been reading for a couple of months. I am married with a 5 y/o daughter. I like the blogs of singles better than the mommy/parent ones I have come across. I am Jewish and defintely was “out there” before I met my true love, who is also Jewish (yes, I had that requirement also, it is just easier).

I work in corporate America for a Fortune 100 company, but work mostly from home.

We just moved from South FL to my homestate of NC. I have not lived here in almost 20 years but am happy with the change. TMI??

So I suppose it’s time to de-lurk! I am 39, Jewish, mother of one, and single for about five years now. I work full-time in financial services in a city with a reputation for being windy. I believe found you via Esther, and I’ve enjoyed being one of your readers.

For fun, I . . . well, to be honest, I’m almost completely wrapped up in parenting and work. Sometimes I get crafty with paint and fabric. I watch a lot of British TV shows on DVD, Project Runway, and Weeds. One day, when my child decides to ditch me for his friends on a regular basis, I’m sure I’ll acquire hobbies or something.

I live in LA, and I’m not married, but in a relationship, so I don’t exactly feel single. I’m in between the 2 worlds. I am jewish, but I’m not dating a jew, which seems to be the sweet spot I’ve been looking for (my parents are one jew, one non-jew). I found your site linked from a couple of blogs I read, and I started reading earlier this year … maybe this summer? I’m a bit of a computer geek, I’ve made a few websites for fun. One on hiking in LA and more recently I started a cooking blog. And I turn 30 … soon!

Okay, here ya go, for what it’s worth; Born in Escondido, raised in Montana, moved to Anaheim for a while before then going to Colorado, bouncing back to Cali for a spell & ending in CO again. I consider it a bad start, but nice recovery.

Did the marriage thing once for eight years. That fell apart & I’ve been periodically single ever since. I’ve done pretty well in keeping the house from reverting to a stereotypical bachellor pad with three layers of filth atop four layers of forgotten clothing (though I’m NOT throwing out the rogue bowling pin, dammit).

Ski season is upon us up in mile-high-land, so I’ve gotta get my ski-bum personna out of storage & hit the slopes (yes, that’s skiis, not snow board).

Other than that, I work to travel. This year it’s been Dallas, Knoxville, Philly, San Jose, Houston (twice), D.C. and I’ll be in Nebraska before the year is done. Next year I’m likely going to Philly & SJ again, and I’ll even be going international (warning has been given) to FINALLY break in my passport. … Where am I going? I’m sorry, but I think that would be giving away too much.

Likewise on the blog-hopping to come across your little site here. Don’t know how long I was doing that before I saw you though.

I think I’ve posted a response before . . .

I’m 45 (just turned last week), Jewish, married (10 years next month, to a Jewish woman I met at a singles service), and we have two boys. We live in a suburb of Washington, DC. I’m an engineer by training, but work in information technology right now (shoving project management down people’s throats). I won once on “Jeopardy!” My wife and I mystery shop restaurants sometimes to help recycle the entertainment dollar. I’m also somewhat politically active. Last week I started my own blog for my birthday (big spender that I am). I like the music of Josh Groban and of Sugarland. I can make brownies myself from scratch, and one day will share with you a chicken tajine recipe. I am no Albert Szent-Gyorgyi.

I found your blog via Ari, and Ari’s via Zelda (of theurbangrindblog.com). Sorry I don’t know any nice Jewish guys to send your way (but I would if I did know any).

I found your blog looking for a red velvet cupcake recipe this summer. I made 300 cupcakes for a friends and 150 of those were red velvet cupcakes. I used the Magnolia Recipe that I found on your site. So thanks!

I am 30, live on the East Coast, am from Montana…am married and am not for real Jewish. I lived with a Jewish family for four years, so I honor their traditions and when people ask I give them the short answer….”I am an UnJewish Jewish person”.

I am married and make my living baking, writing and doing other odd jobs.

I really enjoy reading your blog, because hey, you are Jewish, you bake and you are a great writer! All things I am interested in.

Dave totally watched “How I Met Your Mother” this week!

I am 30 (yipee!), married, living in my hometown. I teach computer skills at a small elementary school across the street from a nuclear (2-syllables, not 3) power plant.

I found you at Franklin Ave.

Married to awesome guy/rabid Laker fan, who I also work with (he DJ’s, I plan weddings) Single - not for the last six years. What do you do–for fun or for work? My work IS fun…mostly. Made my way here via a blogger search…I believe. Huge bookworm, love chocolate, our 2 spoiled cats, the beach, traveling, art. Would love to do a So. cal blogger meeting.

PS. Can I put you on my fresh links list?

Dave totally watches “How I Met Your Mother” every week. I’ve been leaving the great quotes here after the shows for almost a year and I guess Hilary is the only one that noticed before. Sometimes I try to incorporate them into Hilary’s subject but the responses when it doesn’t match are interesting.

Bethany, last night’s episode was good, but last week’s episode, “Ted Moseby… Architect” was the best of the series so far.

I think Esther wins for referral Queen. Of course I’ll try to out do her here. Other than my original post I’ll claim:

After a hard day of oystering, I usually take my skipjack to the island to fly my Albatros around the city. This is increasingly now the subject of several open TSA & FAA investigations, especially when mock strafing commuters on the various bridges into town. I do it mainly for the precious look of absolute terror & surprise on their tired faces, something that no doubt keeps them awake for weeks afterwards. No one really is harmed (other than the heart attacks I imagine), as most of the front of the DVa is taken up with the camera, and the left Spandau never really worked. Still, the only times I was caught was when a Beemer & a blonde in a Benz outran me on the turnpike. Not as fun as imagined when the state troopers affect an arrest that way. But knowing the mayor as well as we do, I tell them I’m working as part of a camera crew doing set ups, (sort of the truth afterall) and they’re fine with it. It’s the Feds who are always less than amused. That’s when I go on vacation to an exotic locale until they find something more important to harp on. Like their war on moisture with all the confiscation of various and sundry toiletries. The plane was last registered with Kiaser Bill so there’s not much of a paper record on it either. My bad.

When not otherwise frightening the tourists, I can be found following the latest test match, and giving largely unheeded military advice to the uninterested. Huge fan of blood puddings & jellied ells, I’ve yet to experience the exquisite terror of having a weasel down my pants, but I’m hopeful that one day I too can find someone who understands all this. And that I’m not prosecuted for it unduly. This is all most husbands ask for in the end. Cheers, ‘VJ’

Found you through MyClutteredLife link 2-3 weeks ago. Enjoy your take on single life. I am 30, married 4+ years, no kids, live in Virginia, gentile and have never crossed from the east side to the west side of the Missippippi.

Still remember the angst of looking for the “right” guy, luckily without having to limit the search by religious beliefs. The great Jewish guy I know married Ms. Wrong….wish I could send him your way instead.

I participated last time but thought I’d say Hi anyway. I read weekly. I also wanted to say THANK YOU for Gougeres, Guster and Homemade Marshmallows. Funny, I made the marshmallows while listening to Guster. They were fabulous! Although … I didn’t turn the mixer speed down before adding the vanilla. Oops! Everyone at work and my boyfriend LOVED them! Thank you again!

Oh! I only know one single, Jewish man. He lives in NYC and is a broadcaster personality type for a major sport radio station. I dated him a few times but he sort of fallsinto that “can’t you get your own glass of water?” category. Not to mention, he lives 3,000 miles away. (I used to like to keep my boyfriends at a distance, ha!)

I found you through Nanette’s blog. I was born in Manila, then immigrated to Los Angeles with my family when I was twelve, but we took the scenic route here (Guam, Japan, Hawaii). I’ve lived in downtown Los Angeles for 15 years and I’m a screenwriter. At the ripe old age of 40, I’m getting married in January to a younger man who I met because he read my blog, then I read his blog, then he showed up at a blood drive I was organizing for my sister.

Hi Hilary - I guess I’m pretty new to this so I’ll choose to comment and not just read everyone’s comments :).

I’m 32, single and almost ready to be a wife and mommy once Mr Doesn’t Suck comes along. Also a jew-ess but not opposed to marrying out of the faith. I have a single 35 year old finally ready gorgeous brother who I’d like to slyly introduce to Hilary. :). He’s not bloggish but I am so maybe he’ll join the party via osmosis.

I found you through Plunky and then clicked on one of her bloggy friends who led me to you. Now you’re a daily read :).

I’m 38, married, transplanted-Midwesterner living in Dallas. I double majored in math and computer sci. I write software for a living. I am the mommy to 2 scrumptious little girls.

Speaking of scumptious, I love reading about your cupcake recipes. And your tonsils. And your dates. Hell, I just love reading your blog, in general.

I can’t remember how I found you. I think I found Annabel’s blog through yours. Or maybe you somehow foudn my blog? Who knows. Long story short, your blog is a regular read of mine.

October 18th, 2006 | 7:43 pm

I’m not sure if I participated in this last time, and you know some of this stuff about me. I live with my boyfriend in Los Angeles. We moved here from San Francisco a little more than a year ago, and are happy transplants so far. He is Jewish and I am not. We talk about getting married all the time, now if slowpoke would just pop the question…

For work I write freelance marketing copy. I don’t always love it and most of the time I feel as though I still need to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. For fun I love to read and cook, and thanks to your blog, I managed to develop an interest in baking too. I also watch far too much TV.

I found your blog through Smitten’s, and started reading back in San Franciso, before I knew I was moving to LA. Once we decided to move, your blog reassured me about doing it for some reason. You made LA sound like a place I could live.

Lori

October 18th, 2006 | 8:32 pm

I am 30 years old and single, and I remember randomly coming across your blog twice in one week. The first time I clicked on it from LA Blogs, simply because I liked the name. Then, a few days later, I did a blog search on Jdate stories, and I recognized yours immediately and started reading. I am half Jewish, but my taste in men swings towards gentile, so I have been on Match. The last guy I met and dated from Match, it turned out, was double dipping in Jdate, and I had some bitterness towards the whole online dating thing. I do PR and marketing for a beauty company, so you can imagine my problems meeting straight men of any faith.

Hi! I am a chiropractor from Toronto. I am also Jewish (you seem to attract The Faith) and I am married to a wannabee chess grandmaster.
We live in a great old house on a treelined street in the west end of the city. We rent and dream of being able to afford to buy a place, but the market is grimm for us poor folk (anyone have half a mil sittin’ around?)
What else? I love the sushi, can’t stand any food that has cooked fruit in it, am messy and don’t care and have hiked in Chile, Newfoundland and Alaska.

C’est tout!

I’m a 35 year-old married Jewish father of a three-year old little boy living in the LA-area. I forget how I found your blog, but I recognized some of the details of your life from correspondences we exchanged via JDate or some other website a few years ago (before I met my wife, I hasten to add). Hope this doesn’t burst your bubble about men you date finding the site.

30 yo married female born, raised, and living in Oregon (as of now, Portland). Currently employed as a paper-pushing supervisor for a copier dealership. I can’t remember which blog I reached your from, but I liked your writing and bookmarked your site. No kids (unless you count my husband), 2 dogs, 1 cat. Not Jewish, but can firmly use the cliche that ‘one of my best friends is’. I like cooking, crafting, and sleeping in my free time. (Why do I feel like I am being interviewed?)

Now your turn: If you were the only person on earth that could have this particular power, would it be flight or invisibility and why?

I’m a 35 year old woman, I live outside of Philadelphia and I am a librarian. I really enjoy reading your blog because I went through the whole internet dating thing after my divorce 5 years ago. I met my current boyfriend online and we have been together for 3 years. I also enjoy baking and have tried a few of the recipes you have posted. I love the red velvet cupcakes!! I’m also interested in purchasing the cupcake carrier you bought. I also have a part-time job at Borders (I’m saving for a house) so I’m always reading. And when I’m not working or reading, I’m baking, going to movies, knitting or watching LOST, Heroes, Entourage, Weeds or Flip this House.

October 24th, 2006 | 10:59 pm

Hey there, I found you because somebody told me “Hey Alli, theres this chick in LA who talks like you.” So there you have it. I’ve been lurking for a while during the birth of my baby and writing of my new book. Now I speak.

Also, I’m making those badass sugar cookies you gave the recipe for. I’m a sugar cookie snob so yeah baby, you rock. That one is amazing.

K, so there you have it!

Oh yeah, I have 3125235 kids and a new husband who shaved his dreads off so he could look “less artsy” for my parents when he met them last year before we got married, but then, when they saw the pictures of them, they cried and cried because they loved them. (My parents are snobs, so we thought he should shave them. Turns out, they wanted the token black/korean guy in our all white family to look like Bob Marley)

K, enough? More? K bye.

Hi

I thought I’d add my bit for what it’s worth as, reading through this comments, I realise that I will be the first contributer to this post from outside the USA. Yes, your blog reaches London, England, and I love reading about what you get up to in LA. I have recommended your blog to several girlfriends and it has certainly become a regular read.

About me: I turned 31 a couple of days ago, and am single but have been in a relationship for 7 months with a wonderful guy I met on none other then JDate. It really is a great way to meet someone but you have to filter through…

I am a freelance graphic designer and I love chocolate and sea views.

I found your blog on the Jewish blog list on http://www.somethingjewish.co.uk
