Weekend Wrap-Up

My weekend, in bullet points:

  • Friday morning on my way to work I saw a man walking down Little Santa Monica wearing nothing but underwear and a towel around his neck.
  • Following the peep show, I went back to the ENT who said: a) the infection looks better, but is not quite gone so let’s do another round of antibiotics (oh yes, please, let’s do!); b) oh, you also have a virus, that is why your temperature is low and your throat is red and hurts so “take it easy” again this weekend (grrr, I have been taking it easy for the past month!); c) my surgery will not be until at least mid-November.
  • My workday was then uneventful, and I drove home without seeing any other near naked men. I did however, stop at Savon/CVS in West Hollywood and ohmygod is that place the biggest clusterfuck ever. They are doing construction and everything is all over the place.
  • Saturday morning, I woke up to the sounds of a car alarm blaring. Oh yes, the sounds of outside; I had forgotten what they sounded like. That’s because I finally slept with my windows open instead of my air conditioning on for the first time in over a week. There’s really something to be said about fresh air.
  • In between four loads of laundry, I called D-Link with the absurd notion that someone there would actually be able to help me configure the WEP encryption on my wireless router. Hah, I’m an idiot. What was I thinking? Buttermilk Cupcakes with Praline Icing After about twenty frustrating minutes on the phone with a tech support woman in India, she confirmed about ten times my first and last name, phone number, and that yes, I did want to configure the encryption. Finally, I got tired of the endless echoing on the phone line and hung up, deciding that I will just bring my laptop into work and bribe one of the guys on my team with baked goods so they would do it for me. I hate when companies outsource to India. Hate hate hate it.
  • Saturday night was a really fun dinner at El Cholo for Marisa’s birthday. I was one of a few single people there, and although I’m becoming more comfortable going to stuff solo (ok fine, I drove with another friend and her husband), I still feel a little lame. I look forward to one day (hopefully soon) bringing my own plus one.
  • I wore my hair straight that night and noticed about an inch of regrowth and a bunch of grays. Fortunately I’m getting my hair colored next weekend.
  • Sunday I decided to forgo the Hollywood Farmer’s Market in favor of a very empty Rock and Roll Ralphs. I had forgotten that football started today. It was so nice to shop in an empty store.
  • I made buttermilk cupcakes with praline frosting.

And that concludes yet another “take it easy” weekend.

Last year, I had an Issue with AOL. They Outsource To India, too. Now, I hear The Country Of India is Very Nice. I would Visit, but I Am Allergic To Some Of The Spices that they use in their Food and fear Starving To Death While On Vacation. But, I dealt with Exactly The Same Frustrations as you — Repeating My Name And My Problem over and over without ever getting An Actual Solution. I never could get The Same Person Twice, either. I think Outsourcing Sucks and why any company would even Consider it — in lieu of Highly Trained And Knowledgable Customer Service Agents, I don’t understand.

Would you beleive I have never been to the Hollywood Farmer’s Market? Have you ever been to the one in walking distance to us that they have on Mondays? i work from Home that day and I think I may check it out. Instead of doing any Actual Work while At Home, you see.

Randi, there’s a Famer’s Market within walking distance of us? Where? And let me know if you ever want to go to the Hollywood one with me. I go most Sundays, unless I have my Little.

Isn’t there a Farmer’s Market in that park off of Fountain? Mondays, 9am-12 noon? Right? I have seen the signs, but I am usually at Home still in my pajamas and working during those hours. Maybe tomorrow I will take a walk down there and check it out. Also, I know I have a friend who loves the Farmer’s Market on Larchmont. Do you know about that one? It is on Sundays, too.

You NYers are so silly. That’s not walking distance.

Never been to the Larchmont one. I like the Hollywood one because I can park in the Bed Bath and Beyond structure and spend money there after the market.

OY Hil, I really hope this next bout of antibiotics does the job!

And for the record, I hear the Farmers market near Bed Bath and Beyond is great and I keep forgetting to go. Thanks for reminding me it’s on Sundays :)

It’s not really the start of the weekend until you see a guy wearing underwear and a towel.

All the customer service sucks these days. Truly sucks. Every single transaction requires like five billion reiterations of name, account number, problem, blah blah. And they swear they record things for “quality assurance”, but then where is the quality, I ask??

Whenever I hear the promise of “quality assurance,” I picture Homer Simpson dozing or eating doughnuts while listening to miles and miles of taped conversations from 1997. And what does this have to do with Hilary? Reference to baked goods, of course.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say the cust. serv. Indians are obssessed with first and last names, they put such an importance on it I wonder if it isn’t used for currency. I mean seriously, wtf?! And why don’t phones work well there? The echoing is out. Of. Control.

I had such an awful experience with Dell in India that when went to buy a new laptop last week I refused to even look at a Dell. Fuck them if they can’t staff an office here - I can’t deal with India. I even went so far as to buy a Geek Squad package. The Geek Squad guys are the nicest!!

I miss El Cholo. Also, the Larchmont Farmer’s Market is really great. I saw Weird Al there with his weird wife and weird baby. Also, very good peaches.
