Weekend Stuff

I spent most of the weekend feeling like crap so I didn’t make it out of the apartment much. I also slept about 12 hours each night. Here are the not-so-exciting details and other random things:

  • Went to the doctor but didn’t need the shot. Now I can’t tell people, “you’re a pain in my ass.” Oh well.
  • Bought a humidifier at Target. Got it home, filled it with water, and turned it on. It didn’t work.
  • Also bought a Paul & Joe shirt at Target. Cute clothes, who knew?
  • Spent Friday night and Saturday feeling pretty damn horrible. For a while, I couldn’t tell which was making me more miserable–the sore throat or the messed up stomach from the antibiotics.Chocolate Crinkles
  • Baked chocolate crinkle cookies for a Labor Day barbeque and tried a new brownie recipe as well.
  • Bought a humidifier at Bed Bath and Beyond. Used a coupon. Got home, filled it with water, turned it on. And it worked. Thank God.
  • Those of you who asked about ice cream following the tonsillectomy: I have been advised that sorbet and popsicles are preferable to ice cream because the dairy in ice cream creates mucus and well, this whole thing is just getting gross. But yay for sorbet! And yay for awesome friends willing to bring/send/eat cold treats. You guys rock.
  • I am so buying this cupcake courier. (It holds three dozen!) Thanks Jen!

Now I must clean my apartment then get dressed and (hopefully not sit in holiday traffic as I) head out to Culver City for a Labor Day barbeque with cookies in tow.

I can’t get Jen’s page to load, but I just heard about the Cupcake Courier via the MySpace page of Jenna (the girl who plays Pam on The Office). Her cousin-in-law invented it!

I’m definitely getting one of those!

In a world of scabs & mucus & humidifiers & antibiotic stomachs is it not wonderful that brownies & chocolate crinkle cookies & cupcakes also exist? Voltaire was right.

And along with everyone else, my best wishes for pain & tonsil-free days ASAP.

I had my tonsils out about 5 years ago, when I was 25, so also as an adult…

You’re spot on with the ice cream thing. Dairy = bad. But here’s a surprising one (or at least it was to me at the time)… Nothing too hot; stick to lukewarm. You’d think a nice hot cup of tea might sooth the inevitable soreness, but if it’s too hot it can soften up the scabs and prevent healing.

A bit of grossness… It’s a good thing you caught the thing about the scabs falling off. My doctor didn’t tell me, and I woke up one morning maybe a week after my surgery to find blood on my pillowcase, obviously coming from my mouth. I called the doctor’s service, and she was paged and we both rushed to the hospital, where after checking me out she told me that it was perfectly normal and that it was just scabs coming off. Some advance notice would’ve been wonderful.
