Thursday Things

You guys were right. Project Runway rocks. Unfortunately, when I try to Tivo the new episodes, it records all of them, including repeats. Same with Laguna Beach. Not that I uh, tried to Tivo that or anything.

In other TV news, what new shows are you looking forward to this fall?
- - -
My readership has tanked since I got sick/stopped going on dates. What gives? No one besides Stacey is interested in hearing about my tonsils? I heard white dots on tonsils are the new black. Or something.
- - -
I ordered the cupcake courier the other day but never received a confirmation email. I used a credit card so I know I’m protected in case it’s never shipped, but still that’s kind of odd. And bad business. Especially since I totally pimped them out on my baking blog.
- - -
I woke up yesterday with another sore throat. Tomorrow is my follow-up visit with the ENT so we’ll see what he says. I want my tonsils out now, I’m tired of always being sick. And, I’m sick of gargling with that Alkalol stuff. Nasty.
- - -
Remember how I mentioned my cousin proposed to his girlfriend a couple of weeks ago? Well, my other cousin (the one I was supposed to visit in Seattle) just announced he recently proposed to his girlfriend as well. So now that makes me the oldest still single cousin. My two older cousins are totally going to have to pay for that, because I so know I’ll be hearing, “Hilary, when are you going to get married?” Ugh.
- - -
This weekend is a friend’s birthday dinner at El Cholo. I hope I’m off the antibiotics by then, because I want a margarita. On the rocks. With salt. Mmm.
- - -
And finally, I am well aware this is a boring post but I’m not feeling well. Or witty. Re-read Tuesday’s post if you need entertainment.

I care! But I e-mail you, so hopefully you know that.

I’ve been watching “Vanished” which I enjoy even when it strains the limits of credibility; and I am so looking forward to Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

I totally love hearing about the tonsils (in my next life I’ll be a doctor!), but I am so sorry you continue to feel so crappy.

Your blog is always interesting. (Maybe it’s because it’s a holiday week that readership is down).

It looks like my 39 yr. old sis has found Mr. Right. They are not engaged yet, but it looks like they’re headed that way. Hang tough.

I am the oldest of all my cousins. My next-youngest cousin (6 years younger) got married 3 years ago. My brother (7 years younger) got married this summer. And my next-next youngest cousin (graduating from college spring 2007) is engaged and planning a wedding for next fall. The fact that I’m in a happy relationship helps, but still… ;)

We love your tonsils! The spots are sexy… or something.

I am completely hooked on “Bones” and I’m really liking “Justice” too (so far, I can’t decide if the premise has staying power or not).

It’s so depressing to hear that the “when are you getting married” question is still acceptable. Have we made no progress at all? I need a cupcake.

I got a confirmation email for the cupcake courier from PayPal, I think, so maybe check your spam folder? I ordered it Monday and it arrived yesterday, so yours should be there soon!

The dating thing just intrigues people–readership is so fickle. I have the same experience. I’ll write about life, work, family, whatever, and I get a few stray comments, if any. But post about men/dating/love? Suddenly everyone’s fascinated. And opinionated.

I know about the when are you getting married thing. I have two cousins they are both born two weeks apart in October 1977 which makes them 4 months older than me. Within three weeks of each other they both get engaged this past June. One is getting married March 2007 and the other September 2007. Out of all my cousins (8 females) three of us are still not in steady relationships. Already when I was sitting at the table one night for dinner with family and friends everyone starting talking about daughters in law and I had to get up and leave! My day will come…and if it doesn’t come soon my Jewish mother will remind me to get on it :)

Sorry you’re still not feeling better. And I’m so ready for some new TV shows. I tried Vanished and couldn’t get into it (maybe I need to give it a better shot) but am really looking forward to Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Nine and Ugly Betty.

I watched “Standoff” this week, since I’m fascinated by crisis negotiation. The show’s a little bit unbelievable, but I think I’ll watch it again. Ron Livingston’s cute.

Studio 60 is already rocking my world (thanks to a preview DVD from Netflix)–Vanished and Kidnapped are both good, but I mix them up. Of course, I need to see 30 Rock and am looking forward to the returns of Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. Can’t get involved in the Nine; will be saving myself for 24 in January. Also rockin’ me: Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, Monk, Psych, and am intrigued by Courteney Cox’s new show on FX, Dirt. Yes, I’ve officially given up dating for television. I’m certain this is a positive development.

And don’t worry about the traffic. Audiences are fickle. They’ll be back. You complain, but you get ten comments on your complaint post. So quit yer kvetchin’!

I love Project Runway. So much that I turned the girlfriend onto it. And you’ve met her, so you know this is not a lie. Not that I love Project Runway, but that I turned a real actual girlfriend (not a friend that’s a girl) onto it instead of the other way around. Yes. Awesome.

Based on the pilots I’ve seen thus far, my favorite new shows are Heroes, Studio 60 and Ugly Betty. The Nine made me fall asleep and all the other ones about disappearing, vanishing, kidnapping, etc…..sucked.

LOVE LOVE LOVED Tuesday’s post. That really tickled my fancy. Not sure where my fancy is located, but I’m sure it was tickled.

I had a cousin get married in April, and it made me wonder what was wrong with me!

I HAVE GOOD NEWS which I hope will somehow trickle down and encourage you. You may recall I was pining for years for Mr. Emotionally Unavailable. He up and married an ex-fiancee in May with a couple weeks notice to me. Actually, he was calling me a couple weeks after he got married (at a courthouse license window on their lunch hour with no wedding, and no honeymoon), wanting to fool around. Sorry. No.

THE MASTER PLAN . . . Went to my 30th high school reunion about 12 days ago (yes I am very old, but a Superjux fan) and reconnected with a classmate who, as it turns out, has been waiting 20 years for a chance to be with me. Okay, yeah, we fooled around at our 10th reunion, but I have not seen him since.

It has been a full court press ever since. We have had several fabulous meals out. He is totally into me, and let me meet all of his friends at an outing to the Orange Street Fair. He calls morning, noon, and night when we are not together. We went to church. We went to a family friend’s funeral. We went to Norton Simon where he compared me to a work of art. We had our first heated debate/fight. He sent flowers. And, he wrote me a poem along with several heart rendering love notes.

Wow. It can happen.

new fall shows - I liked the nine pilot, and am glad that both bailey and charlie from party of five will be on tv, same network - is it the same night? I’ll probably give ugly betty a shot. and the mid-season replacement for lost my friend is writing/producing with taye diggs. but thats it for new shows. I have too many old ones - lost, 24, veronica mars, greys, nip/tuck, project runway. tivo can’t handle any more.

Not to step on one who’s seen a whole bunch of the new shows, but even with the way-too-insiderness of Studio 60, won’t the Sorkin-heads come out in droves? I feel like his stuff, especially with the lag of those last couple of years of The West Wing he ditched out on, which were better than most but still not up to par, is being craved by the millions who used to watch.

Or maybe I’m just giving too much credit.

Totally looking forward to Studio 60. TV Guide had great reviews of all the new Fall shows.

And all my siblings and most of my 1st cousins are married, so I totally sympathize with you, Hil!

RE: Studio 60…I am a total Sorkin-head, saw the pilot, and am insanely excited about it. I just hope there are enough of us. :)

Erin-

I wasn’t so over the moon about the pilot, but I’m just as excited for it (being one of the aforementioned Sorkin-heads)… Tons of potential. I just thought the pilot spent a lot of time setting up a lot of future conflict and developing underlying stories rather than trying to entertain you.

All I know, is Studio 60 automatically passes my 2 Episode Test. They can do whatever they want to and I’ll probably keep watching.

I too Netflixed the Studio 60 pilot and loved it. I hope all Sorkin-heads tune in, I don’t want this one to go away. This past Sunday I watched the Lost Survival Guide - October 4th can’t come soon enough.

For completely different reasons, I love Fashion House on MyNetworkTV (9pm every weeknight & Saturday recaps). I didn’t think I could go back to following a soap (albeit one on primetime and with much higher production values), but the dialogue is so deliciously campy and it promises to have many bitchy slapfests between Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild. Meow.

After years of enduring questioning like, “When are you going to settle down and get married?”, “What are you waiting for?”, “Are you a lesbian?”, and comments from aunts such as, “I had five children by the time I was your age,”, “Maybe you’re just too picky,” and my personal favorite, “Your hoo-hoo will get cobwebs,” I just decided to arrive and stay drunk at all family gatherings. Then, wouldn’t you know it, I met a wonderful guy and I’m getting married in January 2007 for the first time at the ripe old age of 40.

Celia - Wow and congratulations. How’d you get the cobwebs out of your hoo-hoo?

Do you have any videos of you drunk at the holiday family parties? Perfect fodder for MySpace! Sounds like a scene from that movie with Holly Hunter and Robert Downey, Jr. (What was the name of that one?)

We hired some day laborers outside Home Depot.

No, no videos.

That would be Home for the Holidays, which was directed by Jodie Foster, also starring Steve Guttenberg, Dylan McDermott, Anne Bancroft, David Straithairn and Geraldine Chaplin. Wonderful movie.
