Just Stuff

  1. My dry cleaners is now a dry cleaners slash flower store. Interesting concept I suppose.
  2. I baked (then froze) Passover brownies that are pretty good.
  3. My tennis class still rocks. As do my volleys. The funniest part of class is that there is a pigeon that follows the pro around. It’ll even sit in his hand and let him feed it. Very odd.
  4. I spent $45 on custom blended powder foundation and $35 on the brush. I was told the powder should last me six months. For that price, it better.
  5. A neighbor of mine supposedly recently inhereted $4 million and showed an interest when I asked him about investing in a bakery. Anyone have any advice or reference material about writing a business plan?
  6. Going to the Hollywood Farmers Market and Target alone on a Sunday is depressing. Too many young couples with babies in tow. Sigh.
  7. Next week I’ll be down at my parents house Wednesday through Sunday. The seders are Wednesday and Thursday nights and I’ll be baking tons of desserts for each. The rest of the week I hope to sleep, relax, hit the batting cages with my dad, play tennis with my mom, and have lunch with Julie and the boys. Should be fun.

Just shot you an email with some info on business plans. Glad to see my MBA is benefitting someone…

I own A Thriving Small Business (which greatly benefits from My BFA In Acting. See, Mom?) and found the books, Business Plans for Dummies as well as Small Business for Dummies Ridiculously Helpful. The SBA is a great resource as well — they provide free counseling and advice. Good luck! As you know, i think you have A Great Idea!

A lot of people recommend the SCORE business advisors (hey, they’re free!). Although I didn’t get much out of my visit with them, they do offer good printed resources - including a good guide to creating a business plan - if I’m remembering correctly.

I think LA is the capital of weird hybrid stores - flower market/restaurant, shoemaker/italian deli and dry cleaner/cell phone store all in our hood.

have a happy passover! still not sure what I’m doing for the seders but I watched the barefoot contessa make chopped liver and now I want to try the recipe. I must be getting old - I crave chopped liver.

I was going to say Google business plans or go to the library, but these guys have you covered. You totally need to do this. Create a business plan and knock your neighbor’s socks off.

See, what’ll happen is that you’ll open up the bakery and be much happier doing that. Then this cute single Jewish guy will walk in to buy a cake for his mother. He’ll come back a week later to thank you and then ask you out. It’s foretold.

Whatever you do, do NOT hire an umpire to work in your bakery shop. All he’ll do is stand around all day yelling BATTER UP!!! LOL

OK, seriously, is this going to be a general bakery or a kosher one?

It is a steep price to pay, but it’s worth it. Good make-up does good things.

Now, for the important part: go for it! I have no advice to give (I am no business woman), but from what I gather, if anyone should have their own bakery, girl, it is you. I don’t really know you, but I have good intuition and your baking blog looks pretty amazing! I promise if you do, when I come to LA sometime, I will buy lots of baked goods.

Happy Passover!

You guys are awesome, thank you so much for all of your suggestions and advice. And Ben, I responded to your email.

Ron, not kosher, just regular. I don’t even keep kosher.

Rachel, happy Passover to you too!

And you all must come by and introduce yourselves and buy a dozen cupcakes when I open the place.

Let’s be honest, if you opened up a bakery-I would be your best customer…don’t you agree? Would you have punch cards??
