No Contact Sports or Roller Coasters

Because I have mono.

Yep. You know how I’ve been complaining for the past couple months of fatigue, sore throats, swollen glands, and white dots on my tonsils? Due to mono!

I went to the doctor last week because of my horribly sore throat and he decided to do some blood work. Well, apparently I picked up the kissing disease without kissing anyone. That’s right, I got it way before I met CL Guy. Which means it’s pretty much gone by now.

My doctor said I should feel completely normal again in a couple of weeks, and that right now I am only “slightly” contagious, whatever that means. When I asked him if there was anything I shouldn’t do, he said if I was feeling okay, I can do everything except play contact sports or ride roller coasters. Having mono enlarges your spleen, and those things can cause it to rupture. Good thing I have a major fear of roller coasters and don’t play football.

Does CL Guy lose points for giving you THE KISSING DISEASE?

Seriously, though, I just saw a Degrassi about this where the twins both kiss the same boy and think he gave them both mono. But it turns out to be tonsilitis (and sympathy pains). That must be why they didn’t address the roller coaster stuff.

Noooo….he didn’t give it to me–I got it before I met him!

But did you give it to him? I had mono two years ago. Yikes…

That’s the open question Esther. And no contact sports? That’s a bit worse than the ‘Hays rules’ (Hollywood’s Will Hay’s) for romance. But do feel better soon! Cheers & Good Luck! ‘VJ’

I was planning on telling him Saturday during our date, but it’s now Friday morning and I haven’t heard a peep from him since Monday regarding our plans. So…

oh man… i got mono from a clown i’d rather forget when i was your age! be glad you just got the polka-dotted tonsils, swollen glands and fatigue!

i saw 3 different docs who gave me 3 different antibiotics, and i ended up in the emergency room with my throat almost swollen shut, ie, i’d have needed a tracheotomy if i’d waited much longer! “i just wanna know what’s wrong with me” i croaked… “oh, you probably have mono. we’ll do a culture and some blood work to confirm it, but i’m betting mono.”

turns out he was right and apparently, the older you are when you get it the more likely you are to have a really ass-kicking dose of it.

the worst part was it was a YEAR before i felt completely like myself again… so regardless of what your doc said about you feeling all better in a couple weeks, take it easy, and make sure you get enough sleep.

i hope your doc’s right tho…

I had it for three horrible years. I didn’t rest enough and it kept relapsing. Once I finally kicked it but it took me another three years to feel normal again. So rest rest rest!

Hope you feel better soon.

So sorry to hear it, hon.

But hey — weren’t you swearing vociferously at Esther’s drinks outing that you did not have mono?

Feel better, and let me know if you need any chicken soup or anything. (Not sure how I’ll get it there without a car, but we’ll figure something out.)

Thatnks everyone! But I’m actually feeling a LOT better. It appears the brunt of it was about a month ago, so I’ve been getting better ever since then!

Oh my little Hilary… I’m glad you’re feeling better. You know, if you worked at my company they’d shoot you rather than give you the sick time. Just sharing that. And I hate my job. If I come to LA can we make out and will you pretty please give me mono??

Feel better, Hilary. The Six Flags Rugby team misses you!

And am I really going to be the first one to make the off-color joke about not engaging in “contact sports”?

Hello, and I’d like to introduce you to my new friend: Shomer Negiah Hilary.
