Thursday Things

The new season of The Amazing Race starts soon, and I am very excited. In other non-scripted tv news, does anyone else watch Dr. 90210? Dr. Rey’s wife got down to 88 pounds. How is that possible? And what is up with the doctor who spent the entire episode bragging about how he spent $2,000 on these shoes, $800 on this watch, and $5,000,000 on these pants. He drove me nuts. And yes, I am fully aware I watch crappy television. Blame it on the TiVo…I can record more junk.

In baking news, mom, you should get this super special apple peeler so we can easily make that really yummy passover apple crisp this year. And while you’re at Bed Bath & Beyond, you should also pick up this candy thermometer so I can make homemade marshmallows and dip them in either chocolate or caramel, um, just because.

And in more baking news, I may make red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting for valentine’s day. I want to use the rolled fondant I bought a while back to decorate the cupcakes with cut out fondant hearts but I want to color it red or pink. Any suggestions for working with fondant?

Remember Separated Guy? He IMd me the other day, out of the blue. When I asked him what was up, he said he wasn’t sure yet if he wanted to go on a second date with me. Um, it’s been SIX MONTHS since our first date. He still hasn’t decided?!
Dating-wise, I have nothing to report. So instead, I offer up this: I think Jdate should give refunds to people who pay the subscription after receiving notifications that they have new mail but then…find they are spam or fake emails from people in Ghana. The end.
And finally, for those of you who know about Wordpress and can maybe (please!) help–I think the problem with my email notifications is somewhere in the pluggable-functions.php file, but I can’t figure out where.

Oooh, please post the red velvet recipe? I’ve been dying to try it since seeing the armadillo cake in Steel Magnolias.

hucpuc: Click on the baking category in the pull-down on the sidebar…the recipe is in there. And it’s so good!

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help laughing at Separated Guy’s IM. I mean, woah, at that pace, how long does he plan to take before asking a girl to marry him?

p.s. drool drool over your baking plans.

Here’s a link that might tell you what *not* to do with the fondant. I remember reading this awhile ago and found the link again. This person had a little trouble with the fondant, but they were still experimenting. Maybe if they knew then what they know now, they wouldn’t have had trouble. I dunno. It might give you some tips.

H, you should mail Jason a carepackage and let him report back on how they are.

Jason: I’d guess a decade or so. Give or take a couple of years. And I’ll post pics, if and when I do make them.

C: Ooo, thanks! That’s a great link! Looks like a lot of trial and error. I wonder if paste vs. gel coloring will make a difference.

Stacy: Somehow I don’t think mailed cupcakes will arrive looking very pretty. Marshmallows, perhaps. And did someone put you up to this?

H,

Maybe the guy was in a comma and your last date is like 2 days ago from his perspective.

Let Mr. Seperated know that after he submits his answer, you will get back to him in six months with your reponse.

I don’t think you should settle for some guy who *might* want to spend more time with you. Either he wants to see you, or he’s lost his chance. I second Johnny’s comment, too!

Johnny’s comments are great! I agree.

Red velvet cupcakes are my absolute fave. If you bake them, you not only have to post pics, but also a detailed description of what a big bite tastes like…mmmmm…

You should grind up your own horse hooves for the gelatin in the marshmallows. A lot of work, and pretty grisly… but so worth it.

Mmmmm . . . Red Velvet with . . . mmmmm . . . cream cheese frosting. Can’t wait to see pics.

I have been craving a favorite my mom used to make toasted date nut bread with cream cheese spread on top. Mmmmm.

(Okay, 1/2 a sandwich was NOT enough lunch.)

One week later and I’m still amused by separated guy. Just had to say. I think that this is one of those cases where someone overshares their “process,” with you when it’s not really relevent any longer. People can be so strange.
