Thursday Things

Hanukkah: Since a bunch of you have landed here by asking when Hanukkah starts, here’s your info: This year it begins at sundown on December 25. Or maybe not, as my Rite-Aid manager told me Hanukkah has been discontinued.

Cute Priest: Has anyone else noticed the cute priest that is always interviewed on the Today Show?

The Amazing Race: Am I missing something? I swear in past seasons when there have been production errors the teams are given a head start when they leave the next pit stop. This season they just randomly throw in crap about the car’s battery dying because of production errors and then the team moves into last place. Huh? Something’s goofy.

Annoyance: You know those things that Coffee Bean puts on the cup so that your hands don’t burn and you don’t sue them? Well, now they have advertisements on them! What is up with that?

Blog Stuff: My site was down again yesterday, this time for almost an hour. Needless to say, I backed everything up last night because I am paranoid. I am still looking for a new hosting company, preferably one who has an actual phone number and address unlike my current one (have I mentioned they suck?), so keep your suggestions coming.

In other blog news, my sister wants to write a post on my blog–what do you want her to write about? Topic suggestions are more than welcome!

And in more blogging news, Justin over at dude.man.phat has been nominated for a bunch of Gridskipper awards. Go vote for him. Not only because his blog is hysterical and he’s super nice in person, but also because he once asked to be Site of the Week on my blog. No one had ever asked me that before.

Update: My Farmer’s Market buddy (we need to go again soon!) Marissa at terra non firma has also been nominated. Go vote for her too!

If Chanukkah’s been discontinued, do we get to choose between Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Festivus instead?

And maybe your sister should write a post about all the embarrassing stories she can tell us about you from growing up!

just to add to the rant, have you noticed the food network has been running ‘happy hanukkah’ spots the past few days? has no one told them that hanukkah is not the same time as last year? weird and disappointing from my fav cable network. mario, bobby and alton have let me down.

p.s. I’m nominated for an urb also. shout out, please?

I noticed that when I did the nominations…and I nominated you btw! And…your shout out is up!

And, can’t the network people (and everyone else) buy a damn calendar?! Hanukkah is on it!

How did you back up everything, posts and all?

I copied everything in my public_html directory onto my harddrive, then onto a CD. The wiki thing has other instructions to backup, but that was the only one I could understand.

You could not be more right about the Amazing Race. Yes, life is unfair, but there is no reason to not at least try and make up for it. Maybe they have realized that being in the US is making is so boring that people don’t really care anymore. The first time it happened, I thought “weird.” The second time though, it’s like, “What kind of a production error leads to draining a battery?” Twice.

I think The Amazing Race completely sucks this season. I just want it be over already. I think it may have jumped the shark. And I’ve seen more than enough of Utah. The show didn’t even go to interesting locations this season. BORING!

Check out http://www.godaddy.com/ They host my site and seem to work all right. Not sure if they have an actual phone number and address though - I’ve never had a problem requiring me to contact them.

Your sister should write about Jdates gone wrong, of course!

I’ve said this before, but I’m learning so much about the Jewish faith through your blog. I had no idea Hanukkah was on a different day every year. Why is that, by the way?

Beverly: The Jewish calendar is both lunar and solar, so the months are totally different. Here’s a much better description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_calendar

If anyone nominates Tookie to be the king of Hanukkah, I’ll puke.

It’s interesting how the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim calendars all use variants of the lunar calendar with Christianity sometimes going lunar, sometimes solar. We’re wishy-washy, I guess - comes from our alleged polytheism :)
