My Backyard (Nichols Canyon)

This fire started about 20 minutes ago. The picture is from the roof of my apartment building.

Nichols Canyon fire (my backyard)

I’m going to pack my photo albums and stuff now. Think good thoughts.

Update: We don’t need to leave, but thanks for your good thoughts! More picture here. (You can see the water(?) dropping helicopters too.) The street in front of my building is closed and totally backed up, so I’ll be home for the rest of the night.

Side note: Because the street in front of my apartment is closed off, it is eerily quiet tonight. No cars, buses, or horns. Only a helicopter every so often. It’s never been like this before, and it’s quite strange!

You’ll be reading this way after the fact, but we’re thinking good thoughts for you.

We’re watching the fire from our office and wondering what’s going on over there… I think your view might be a little better than mine, since I’m getting the widescreen, but you have the closeup.

Was wondering what that was on the commute home today as it smelled like a campfire in the valley. Also learned my air conditioner doesn’t have a setting to recirculate the air, so now my car smells like a campfire, too.

I heard this on the radio, too. I’m glad you don’t have to evacuate. Scary stuff!

i too was wondering what was burning as i made my way home on foot from the no ho red line station. the smoke was hanging over the air, and i was trying to figure out where it was coming from (sadly it wasn’t universal studios or citywalk). glad you’re okay, though! what a scare.

I saw the smoke on my way to Dodger Stadium last night. I just checked out the LA Times online and it said more than 100 firefighters, along with four water-dropping helicopters, responded to the fireabout and about 20 acres burned, but no houses were harmed.

One More Wildfire Post…

I just got home, so I haven’t been able to upload my photos until now. The top photo was shot northbound on Crescent Heights at Drexel, while the bottom photo was shot from the second floor of the Virgin…
