Tuesday Tidbits

Set-Up #2: So not gonna happen. For many reasons, including, but not limited to, his possession of a written will for his dog. Well, the will is actually for him, but it dictates who would get the dog should something happen to him.* Because we all have wills for our dogs. And oh yeah, he’s dating someone. Apparently she hasn’t found out about the will yet.

Set-Up Guy (The original): we’re still working on scheduling date number two. It’s gonna happen.

Separated Guy #2: Saturday I received a Jdate email from a guy with the same first name as Upcoming Jdate Guy and who is also separated. Strange coincidence, don’t ya think? This one is sans child. We spoke on the phone last night and set up a date for Sunday evening.

Chocolate Festival: My friend and I are planning on going to the Ghiradelli Chocolate Festival this September. She lives in Seattle so we’re going to meet up in San Francisco and are hoping to avoid renting a car. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay and how to get around? p.s. How far in advance should we book our room?

Hearst Castle: And in more weekend trip news, my friend and I are returning to Hearst Castle in July for the second tour. You may remember we did the first tour last year and had a great time. We’re definitely on the lookout for inexpensive hotels and restaurants in Cambria, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Random: The LA Times Calendar section is free once again. Finally.

*It is because of reasons like this that my parents are not allowed to give my phone number/email address/any information to a guy they have not met. Well, because of this and because of what happened the last time they gave out my number.

San Francisco is awesome. Stay in the Union Square area. I always stay at the Sir Francis Drake. The decor is horrendous but it’s always very clean and the price and location are right. It’s on the cable car line so you can ride the lines to Ghiardelli Square and Pier 39. It’s a short cab ride to North Beach and the financial district. Plus there are terrific restaurants in and around the Union Square area. Check out Dottie’s Blue Plate Diner for breakfast. The food is cheap and really good. I hope you have a great time!

To second what Lushy said, somewhat…

The public transportation system in SF is great. I spent about 3 weeks writing and touring there one summer and did not feel the need to have a car at all. While I couldn’t easily get EVERYWHERE, I certainly found it very easy to get around. And for some bizarre reason, the bus drivers frequently don’t make u pay. You just get on as a group and they let it go!

Dotties is great for breakfast, so is Boogaloo in the Mission! yum…. Muni will get you wherever you need to go, you can pick up a map anywhere too. You have to have dinner at Cha Cha Cha in either the Haight or Mission, and get a chocolate covered strawberry at the fudge shop on the end of Pier 39 - the best in the world!!! You have to make it out to Baker Beach, up to coit tower at the top of telegraph hill, and across the golden gate! I miss SF so much, it’s the best city in the world.

Also, what is wrong with having someone in your will to take your dog??? Dog’s are like people’s babies, it’s not like he left his estate to his dog… that would be wierd!

I have to disagree with you on the will thing. If he had a will that dictated who got the dogs chew toys if something happened to it, that would be strange. But writing in the will who you would want to take care of your dog…I don’t see anything wrong with that at all. In fact, it makes a lot of sense to me. If he’s dating someone, though, that’s a pretty good reason not to go out with him.

I scored a great deal at the Westin St. Francis up in SF once by using an online hotel broker. Definitely stay in Union Square. I need to get back up there… such a great city, and my favorite radio station in the world is there.

What happened the last time your parents gave out your number?

Okay, here’s the thing about the will. He’s in his 30s. The dog will (most likely) die before him, so wouldn’t his parents or a friend just automatically take the dog? Why bother with a will?

The Clift Hotel. It’s a little pricey but it is the coolest hotel in the city, .

If you don’t stay there you should for sure go to the Redwood bar in the hotel for a drink. Lots of Hot guys, and the bell boy’s will make you drool. Elise will back me up on this.

in sf, definitely stay in union square. i always use priceline to get hotels in san francisco. check out http://www.biddingfortravel.com and it teaches you how to work priceline to get “free rebids” and get what you want. i usually end up in the hilton or the hyatt in union square for about $70 a night. you really can’t beat that.

when I used to go for work I stayed at the triton a few times. it was a fun hotel in a good location. and they have a wine tasting every night and fresh baked cookies during the day: http://www.hoteltriton.com/html/…tml/

also, I have to agree with the other comments about the dog thing. I dont see the problem with that at all. having just lost a friend who considered his dog a member of the family, it makes sense to make sure your pet will be taken care of. and he was only in his 40s.

I’m with you on the dog thing, Hil. What’s worse than the fact that he provides for the dog in his will, is the fact that this somehow came up in conversation before you’d even met!

Hi ya Hil! We’re also heading to San Francisco, but we’ll be there in August. I agree that it’s best to stay in Union Square. I’ve stayed at the Sir Francis Drake and enjoyed it. My FAVORITE restaurant of all time is right near Union Square. It’s an Italian place called FINO and is in the St.Andrews hotel. Their vegetable contadina is to die for.

Tuesday Tidbits VERY JUICY!

OMG, I so need my will to include my dog! I never even thought of that! JK

Hearst Castle! Love it. Have you ever done the Guest House Tour? I recommend Sea Venture Hotel in Pismo, but I bet it’s not inexpensive and it’s not in Cambria. Try a B&B!
