Question of the Day–Downloading Music
Do you download music using a pay site like iTunes or a peer-to-peer application like LimeWire? And why?

Using peer-to-peers is STEALING MUSIC and taking money out of MY POCKET! I, and all the other people who actually are involved in the production of putting albums together, deserve to be paid for our work. People think twice about walking into music stores and shoplifting CDs, why not over the Internet?

Well, I used to download TONS of free music (I have over a week’s worth of MP3s on my computer as we speak. And LONG before downloading music was even feasible, I copied HUNDREDS of tapes.
Remarkably, however, and somewhat inexplicably, I’ve recently gotten a conscience about all this and stopped doing it. I still don’t usually pay for it, but I download free MP3s from the bands’ sites, etc.
Mind you, I’m not out to proseletyze against it — in fact, I honestly believe that the “illegal” downloading of copywritten music, etc, is actually a good thing for art in the long run, but you can discuss that with me separately! I just feel guilty about it anyway!
Peace.

I used to use P2P before iTunes came along, becuase I liked the convenience of digital music but record labels were way too slow to make legal downloads available. (And most of what I downloaded was out of print and not available anywhere else.) Now I only use iTunes. JAB is right. 99 cents is a fair price, and I’m happy to pay it. The people involved in the music deserve to be compensated (even overcompensated) for their work.
