Talking Elevators Are Not Cool

As many of you are well aware, Century City is in the midst of a construction frenzy. What I may not have shared is that the new owners of my office building are doing a bit of remodeling as well. A few months ago we learned that they would be replacing the elevators–to be expected, considering they often malfunction.

What the owners didn’t tell us was that these new elevators would talk. Yep, talk. So far, their vocabulary appears to be limited to going down, going up, lobby, and floor X. I know you must be thinking how cool, they talk! Yeah well, we thought that the first time we got in one. After that, the how cools turned into how annoying! Who wants to stop on five floors and listen to a whiney voice say floor 4, going down, floor 3, going down, floor 2, going down, floor 1, going down, lobby?

Modern technology at its best.

You should officially start to freak out when the elevators start their descent like the beginning of “Love in an Elevator”: “Hello, Mr. Tyler… going… down?”
